Life with Playstation

Hmmm, maybe it needs this...

Hi, everyone, I wanted to give you a heads up about PS3 firmware update (v2.43). Unlike previous updates, firmware v2.43 is specific to the Japan region, and only PS3 users there will be required to install the update. PS3 users in all other regions will not be prompted to download v2.43. However, if you manually initiate a firmware update by clicking on “System Update” under the XMB’s Settings icon, the v2.43 update will be available, regardless of where you are located.

Users outside of Japan do not need to perform this update if your PS3 system software is on version v2.41 or later. However if you do perform the update, it will not cause any issues with your system or add any new functionality.

Trying it...

I was expecting this thread to be some sort of biography. WeasteDevil: My Life With Playstation

Downloading 2.43 right now.

Edit: From Sony

Hey boys and girls!

Today, while testing the application, Life with PlayStation was available for download temporarily, by mistake. We will make official announcement for the service launch shortly. "

What's all this then?

On 26 June 2008, Kaz Hirai announced Life With PlayStation for the PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network. The service displays a 3D Earth which the user can rotate the view and zoom in to access weather and news headlines for locations around the world. The user is then able to select any headline to view the full article.[13] At E3 2008, Jack Tretton announced that a new partnership between Sony and Google which will allow users to upload video content to YouTube from within games. This is also part of the Life With PlayStation service which was first scheduled to be available in July 2008,[14] but has been delayed to an upsecified future date.

In a nutshell.

so basically they upgraded the graphics. I'll get it tonight and be bored within 20 mins of it.

Just been having a little play with this, and now I know exactly what it is. What it was described to be before is actually a channel called LIVE. Life itself is a channel system, not too disimilar to what the Wii has. Currently there are only two channels, LIVE - which is the news and weather on the interactive globe, and the Folding@Home interface. However, I expect that whatever channel you are using, it is always actually folding in the background. Interesting concept, but it needs more channels to become really useful. I've always used F@H however, so it's a nice addition to the mix. Whether they will go the Wii route and stick access to more functionality such as the web browser, PS Store, etc. into this instead of on the XMB remains to be seen.
