This great series has just finished here in Oz and the missus and I think it is the best TV drama out of the UK in ... forever. Reminds me of my childhood as well.

Has it done well in the Uk and is there a second series on the way?

Just finished the second series. Won't be a third one though. Apparently it'll have a spin off called 'Ashes to Ashes'.

Watch Memories of Murder, they really were influenced by the Korean flick. Doesn't surprise me, though. . .as MoM was a BBC presentation(on DVD).

Yes Gene Hunt will be in the Ashes to Ashes spin off. Not sure if he will still be called the same name.

I really enjoyed Life on Mars, Shame it has ended. I doubt the spin off will be as good.

Just brilliant and the 2nd series is better than the first.life on mars and the new dr whos have been worth the licence fee on thier own.

LOM is one of the best dramas I've ever seen on TV..........
John Simm and Philip Glenister were just made to act together...

I was in a constant state of worry every week over how it was going to end when I was watching it - but I have to say it is one of my favourite endings to a TV series ever (second series that is).

I'm not sure about how they'll get to the new Ashes to Ashes but if it's done half as inventively as Life on Mars was it'll be brilliant.

Anyone who posts spoilers to the second series will suffer my wrath*

* Or possibly Noodle's

hehe, I wouldn't, but it's well worth the wait.

I was disappointed with the end of the first series and thought they should have ended it there - but I'm glad they didn't

A sequel to TV drama Life on Mars is to be made with the action moving to the 1980s.

The sequel, Ashes to Ashes, will see Philip Glenister return as DCI Gene Hunt - but this time in London in 1981.

He will be joined by a female detective from the 21st Century who is stuck in the past after an accident.

She will replace Life on Mars star John Simm, who was at the centre of the original mystery after apparently being catapulted back in time following a car crash in 2006.

The new character will be a modern woman who has risen through the ranks of the Metropolitan Police by using psychological profiling to capture suspects, producers said.

But when she and her daughter are kidnapped, she is injured in a rescue attempt - and finds herself in 1981.

Jane Featherstone, executive producer for TV production company Kudos, said the search was on for DCI Hunt's new "sexy sidekick".

"It's a touch of Moonlighting teamed with a measure of Miami Vice," she said.

Filming is due to begin this summer and the show will be broadcast on BBC One next year.

I watched the final episode last night as I've been away for a week and had to tape it. Definately the best thing on the box in...forever. Can't wait for the second series myself.
