Life is beautiful

I was round at my mates the other night and we were talking about another film, The Motorcycle Diaries, that was on Aussie TV a couple of weeks back but I never finished it because I fell asleep. He lent me the dvd and gave me another, Life is Beautiful, to watch as well.
I remember this when it came out but have never seen it or even had any interest in it to be honest. I remember it won quite a few awards and the nutter at the Oscars trampling all over the chairs and nearly standing on Spielberg’s head when he won the best actor award.
Anyway, I watched this a couple of night’s ago and have to say, it is one of the best films I’ve ever seen, it was a really good film and very well done.
The main character is so likeable and the story whilst funny in the main is very sad at the end and not expected at all.
Anyone else seen this film?
 
I have back in the late 90s kinda fuzzy on the plot, but yeah that one of those memorable Oscar celebrations that no one will ever forget

Yeah, it's almost two films, the first half is all about him meeting his missus in weird situations then the next bit is about the concentration camp

That film was brilliant. Only the ending kinda reminded you that war is still war and not a game.
