Man Utd linked with talented youngster despite Ferguson claiming no more transfer business expected

Sir Alex Ferguson has been busy searching the transfer market for players to widen his defensive options with an eye on the future, with earlier reports linking the Scot with a move for French youngster Kurt Zouma. Now the Manchester United manager has identified Leicester City’s young centre-back Liam Moore as a viable target, claimed the Mirror.

Moore is an academy product of the Foxes but only recently made it into their first team after a successful loan spell at Bradford. The 19 year-old has also represented England at the Under-17 level.

The United boss has received glowing reports of the player, who was watched this previous weekend by United chief scout Jim Lawlor. Rumours suggest that Everton’s assistant reserves coach Alan Stubbs was also said to be present along with scouts from Sunderland and Tottenham.

With United’s defensive stars Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling ruled out with injuries, midfielder Michael Carrick was forced to play as a makeshift centre-back, making the signing of a defender imperative for Ferguson. Although there are several contenders for the starlet’s signature, the Red Devils are certainly front-runners to snatch the young defender from Leicester City before the window closes for the summer.

have not seen this here...

SAF may or may not be interested in Zouma and now Moore, but I find it amusing that the papers bring up the injury crisis for the reason for the interest. If he hasn't played M.Keane or Thorpe instead of Carrick, why would he buy a young player from elsewhere, who would need time to settle in at the club, as an emergency understudy?

Probably because SAF is constantly trying to improve the squad and future of the club. Just because we have Rio, Vidic, Smalling, Evans, and Jones, doesn't mean there isn't a better player/prospect out there.

That said, I know nothing about Moore. Anyone think he has the potential to be a solid EPL defender?

Because they have some experience of first team football. The reason the likes of Keane and Thorpe will go out on loan.
