Sir Alex Ferguson has been busy searching the transfer market for players to widen his defensive options with an eye on the future, with earlier reports linking the Scot with a move for French youngster Kurt Zouma. Now the Manchester United manager has identified Leicester City’s young centre-back Liam Moore as a viable target, claimed the Mirror.
Moore is an academy product of the Foxes but only recently made it into their first team after a successful loan spell at Bradford. The 19 year-old has also represented England at the Under-17 level.
The United boss has received glowing reports of the player, who was watched this previous weekend by United chief scout Jim Lawlor. Rumours suggest that Everton’s assistant reserves coach Alan Stubbs was also said to be present along with scouts from Sunderland and Tottenham.
With United’s defensive stars Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling ruled out with injuries, midfielder Michael Carrick was forced to play as a makeshift centre-back, making the signing of a defender imperative for Ferguson. Although there are several contenders for the starlet’s signature, the Red Devils are certainly front-runners to snatch the young defender from Leicester City before the window closes for the summer.
