Former Manchester United and Celtic midfielder Liam Miller has joined Perth Glory on a two-year deal.

In the week they lost ex-England striker Robbie Fowler, the Republic of Ireland international was confirmed as a significant overseas signing for Ian Ferguson's side.

The 30-year-old will arrive in Perth ahead of the Glory's friendly against Celtic on July 9.

"I'm thrilled to be heading to Perth," Miller said.

"I have heard a lot of wonderful things about the city of Perth but football is the most important thing."

Miller, who has also had stints with Leeds and Sunderland, has spent the last two seasons at Scottish Premier League side Hibernian.

"I'm delighted to have Liam on board," Ferguson said. "He is a quality player.

"Liam brings a lot of experience to the club and he's played at a number of top clubs.

"It's great to have a player of Liam's calibre at Perth Glory.

"He is a midfielder who gets forward and he'll help us become a more attacking team than last season."

Miller made his international debut for the Republic in 2004 against the Czech Republic and has played 21 times for his country in total.

The 30-year-old is the ninth new player signed by the Glory for the 2011/12 season, joining Danny Vukovic, Neil Young, Evan Berger, Dean Heffernan, Adam Hughes, Travis Dodd, Shane Smeltz and Jesse Makarounas.

The one that got away. I'd say Plech is booking his flights as we speak.

I'm not a real mod.

And you lot can feck off, it was worth it for my hilarious thread title alone.

It surprised menwhen I heard he was 30 but he was one of those "youngsters" we signed at the age of 22 or something. A bit like Hernandez but without the quality.

Watching Liam Miller presently playing against Gold coast. God he has gone a long way from his glory days with Celtic.

Only 30 and the Australian league is too fast for the lad

Don't know why I bet on football.

5 mins into a 4 min injury Liam Miller is alleged to have brought down a Brisbane player in the box in the A League Final.

Final score 2-1

Totally robbed. I'd start a riot it was so bad. Disgrace a ref could give a penalty like that

Joke of a pen.

No idea if Perth could have gotten away with a win after Heffernan got sent off, but they at the very least deserved another 30 minutes.

Tidy finish by Berisha for the 1st

Pathetic play from Berisha, he wasn't clipped he exaggerated the air swing to earn a penalty. Extremely pissed off with some of the high profile football media over here like Craig Foster and David Zdrillic saying it was a clear penalty, fecking pathetic from them, it's almost like they are just trying to adhere to a code to save the integrity of the final.

They're from the eastern states and appear to hate anyone from the west. Glory got into the final and there was not one player included in the league team of the year. They even gave the 'player of the match' trophy to a Roar player when burns had been chosen. What a feck up, they had to present it to him at the press conference, absolute joke.

That and he was offside by the full width of a Drogba in the build up.
It was nothing like Yorkie's first season with Sydney FC.

Gives me goosebumps watching that guy - he was a full head and shoulders atop a skyscraper above the rest of the competition. Glad he won it with us and got to celebrate and meet him.

Nah Fozzie is very elitist. I don't like him but I respect his punditry. The guy knows a feck of a lot. It just shits me how far up Barca and Arsenal's ass that he is. When Carrick scored two goals in the Champions League against Roma (which coincided with some hillarious punditry from Tony Palumbo calling for 'Doni to be shot' [in a thick italian accent] for his involvement in the goals) he said that we were still quite rubbish despite the scoreline.

You either like him or hate him but imo he deserves some respect as he doesn't sugar coat anything or sheep opinions from anyone/anywhere.

I love that SBS are jumping to Berisha's defence and saying that he didn't dive.

He was certainly waving his arms asking for a pen on the ground when he went down, the prick.

And then when it was awarded he ran to the corner flag to celebrate. The award of a penalty. What a cnut.

Straight from the Suarez school of football

I didn't think anybody respected that arrogant prick. He hates United, he once went on about Ronaldo taking a free kick and missing. He went on and on about how Giggs should have taken it then somebody mentioned that Ronaldo is usually pretty good with free kicks, his reply "I never watch United".
