After some morning criticism about Phil I have to admit that he has played the third good game in a row today. IMHO it will be unfair to return him on the bench next game. But we have healthy Gaz now so do you think should Phil stay in the first team? If he should -- which position would you use him in?

Seems too soon to me to throw Gary in to start a difficult Champions League game.
He only played a couple of reserve matches (but not 90 minutes) and 10-15 as a sub today...

If they were both fully fit then it would be Gary, but he's not quite there so it has to be Phil

Everyone was saying Phil played well today. Play him, no point in rushing Gary The Red back.

I think that defensively, Phil is a better LB than Silvestre.

it won't matter v leverkusen because they suck at the moment. i watched their game this morning v bremen and the defence is a shambles, United should put a few past them on tuesday so hopefully they'll be too busy in their own end to bother whichever neville plays.

Not trying to be negative but don't you think it's pretty sad that we are debating which Neville to play. I even have to admit to be anxious to have Gaz healthy agian.

Is this discussion not proof about how poor our squad is at the moment. Think about it this way, is the Nevs were put on the transfer market tomorrow which giants of Europe would be lining up to buy them.

Phil had a good game today against Spurs. Gary seems to be lacking the match fitness to throw him straight back in a big match against Leverkusen in midweek. Stick with Phil until Gary is fully match ready and then the choice is obvious.

God I hope so.

Gary's been our first-choice RB for these past eight years and during that time we've won bags of trophies, why is he suddenly a terrible player ? As for Leverkusen, obviously the sold Ballack and Ze Roberto, and they lost 6-2 against Olympiakos. Should be a few goals in this one. :)

I am not a great fan of Phil but give credit where due. He has done well in the last few games despite playing out of position. What more can you expect from a squad player during an injury crisis?

agree.
He's england first choice RB if not injured for the last 6 years. Even when they played with 3 at the back he still made it to the team as one of the CB.

Gary Neville is a weak spot. He's a ball watching mid fielder playing at right back. We've won loads of trophie for the past 8 seasons because of our feirce attacking. now teams know how to play us - the pressure's on and mediocre players like Gary and phil stand out like a dog's bollocks. Having said that phil neville had a blinder against spurs...not bad; a great game every couple of seasons.

Any way they're both gawp shites.

You are right.

About everything......

Gary Neville is shite, the 67000 at OT for the Spurs game agreed with you, they booed him as soon as he came on. He isnt worthy to wear the shirt and should be sold straight away...and his brother can be part of the deal.

SAF has no idea about the game and his decision to keep hold of both the players and offer them longer contracts is baffling.

The last 4 England managers are dillusional to think that Gary should be the first choice right back.
They all know nothing.

Iv got to hand it to ya......

You know your stuff.

Tit.

Fergie could stick with his 4-5-1 in Europe, play Phil, Butt and Veron in the center and sacrifice Ole. But I hope not. In which case Phil has shown good form and should play RB.
However in the long run I'm looking forward to see Gary back, espesially because I think Beckham will benefit. Did anyone notice how well Gary and Beck combined in the last 15 minutes against Tottenham? They know each others moves inside out and as a result Beckham will come forward more often.

For the few minutes he was on it was good to see Gary and Beckham linking up down the right wing. They have a great playing cohesion between them and I think we have missed that this season.

markpud are you a real pudd? or is this a refernce to blackburn pudding eaters?
it must get hot under that pastry hood you wear, old pudd. <img src="graemlins/angel.gif" border="0" alt="[Angel]" />
do you know steak and kidney? i worked with him for 3 years. Good man. Harsh but fair in my onion.

i think you'll find the term is gob not gawp <hr></blockquote>

I think YOU'LL find that there are two diffrent versions. I mean gawp: someone who stares into open space.

Might that be 'Roy' Neville alias Phil <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
We have changed his name as he seems to be doing all sorts of late.
Keep it up R.....er Phil <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />
