Look as though we should top the top if this report is to be believed.

BERLIN (Reuters) - Bayer Leverkusen will miss Brazilian defender Juan and Nigeria midfielder Pascal Ojigwe when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday for top spot in Champions League Group F.
Coach Klaus Toppmoeller said on Monday that Juan had not fully recovered from a thigh muscle injury while Ojigwe was sidelined with a sore left knee.

Last season's Champions League runners-up will also miss Turkish midfielder Yildiray Basturk, who is suspended.

Toppmoeller, whose men have been busy lately with a 3-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart last week followed by a 1-0 Bundesliga win at Schalke 04 on Saturday, said he would also rest a few players.

"Some players will get a break and will not make the trip to Manchester," he said.

Defenders Lucio and Diego Placente, midfielder Bernd Schneider and striker Oliver Neuville will stay at home and will have a light training session in Leverkusen on Wednesday.

Toppmoeller, whose team lie second in the group, three points behind United, dismissed a suggestion that little was at stake with both teams already through to the second stage.

"With a victory we could win the group, which would enable us to start the next phase with a home game," he said.

"Besides there is a match bonus to play for and playing at Old Trafford is an experience for every player."

Leverkusen knocked out Manchester United in the semi-finals last season and went on to lose 2-1 to Real Madrid in the final.

The German club, who appear to be recovering from a bad start to the season and are a poor 12th in the Bundesliga standings, lost 2-1 to United in Leverkusen in September.

That´s hardly a weakened team. Ojigwe´s a squad player and Juan´s been injured for 2 weeks.

Their 3-0 win v Stuttgart was in the cup, Stuttgart won the league match 1-0 the Saturday. :)

Meise allez! :D

They are leaving Lucio, Placente, Neuville and Schneider at home - they are their four best players. To me, that equals a weakened team!.

didnt read that far down ;)

im going for a draw in a boring match. please, bring on the second group stage or the knockout stages ... the first group stage is a waste of time.

Having said that I'd field a team of non regulars and give someone the chance to show that they can be arsed to play for United and want to play for United. Anyone who puts in a good effort can start on Saturday.

I think it counts - we better put out a better team than that which played against Maccabi. What would be your midfield?

I agree. He has always impressed me. Seems solid, unlike Silvestre.

You think we'd win with a team of two or three?

You don't think finishing top and avoiding the "big guns" will flatter to deceive and instill a sense of confidence unwarranted judging by recent displays?

Yes. But at least we might go further.

And give us a bit longer to get our act together and let the january buys settle in.

We should play the 1st 11. the same team he intends to play on Sunday.

We need some consistency back in the team.

sorry, this is on another thread

<a href="http://www.redcafe.info/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=009403" target="_blank">here</a>

We should put out a full-strength, or a very near one and piss all over them. It would be great for morale <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

But if we lose... <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

So now we'll be satisfied with the easiest path?

At the moment yes. Not that we can even beat the easier teams at the moment.

I just don't think we're confident - or able enough to take on the big teams.

I think we need to in order for people to realise something isn't right and for the matter to start being addressed.

Weakened teams nothing. Shitty were supposed to have had a weakened team on saturday and look what happened there!

We need to do our job regardless of what kind of team we face.

Looks like we'll be going in with something not too different than Saturday, as we have that squad of 16 plus Becks, Nardiello and Chadwick. Even Richardson is out with a small injury.
