That's the reason.

Wouldn't cause a cgi problem though, except for the script having to put the correct HTML into the page.

So in this case West Brom are in fact richer than United. That's terrible. I suspected as much. Still a cool idea though, especially for Ruddy who wants a centrefold of AI as his, the ponce ;)

They needn't be a bandwidth problem if the images are hosted on other machines, which is possible. Its just the bandwidth of those hosts which gets hit then.
 
Three reasons there will never be avatars at Red Cafe.

1. Niall doesn't like em.

2. They're a bitch to install

3. They're cute initially, but then turn cheesy and distracting in the long run.

Bonus reason.

Fair enough. Shoulda just said so. They do add to the bandwidth for the user, particularly a problem on dial-up, so it might be for that reason too. They're not half as annoying as Signatures though.

i saw avatars in koptalk and they look extremely childish TBH.

i'm glad this place has an outlook of a grown-up place to be in eventhough most members act like teenage kids who haven't had their cherries popped. :p
 
I like them if they can be large enough to be seen OK but it is far too big a bandwidth drain for a site of this size. You could only allow remote url located images I suppose. But if Niall doesn't want em it's a moot point anyway.

there'd be no use if it does make things slower on here.. it's extremely busy and i think most people will just end up using the "do not show photos" option on their explorer/netscape.
