They pay 25m€ to Leipzig for Nagelsmann.. sacked 20 months later
They hire Tuchel.. crash out of the cup and CL within weeks
They sack the CEO and football executive who sacked Nagelsmann.. the old men take over the transfer summer, sell half their defense only to have all of the deals for replacements collapse on deadline day
They lose the league to Neverkusen
They sack Tuchel and approach Alonso.. Alonso stays at Leverkusen.
They want Nagelsmann back.. Nagelsmann extends with the NT.
They ask Sebastian Hoeneß.. he extends with Stuttgart.
They ask Rangnick.. he stays with Austria.
They want Flick back.. he prefers Barca.
They want Roger Schmidt.. he stays at Benfica.
They ask Emery.. he extends at Aston Villa.
They ask Lopetegui.. he prefers West Ham.
They panic and ask Tuchel to stay.. he declines.

Then they pay 15m € to relegated Burnley to hire... Vincent Kompany

The currency symbol after the number looks weird.

Imagine a CL quarter-final where Liverpool are 1 down, chasing a winner, and suddenly hold up the number for a 17-year old kid to replace Salah in the 60th minute.

You are in shock first. This is a ridiculous decison, how can you bring off your star player for a random kid?
You Google him quickly, he's been on loan at Birmingham, scored 2 in 12 sub appearances in the Championship. His numbers look so average, what the feck is going on!
You still watch very very keenly, because you think this kid has to be special, and that Klopp must have seen something magical in him, that Anfield must surely know their young talents. Surely, right?

But you're also almost breaking into a grin, because you're sure that you're watching a spectacularly stupid call, that Klopp has lost it, and that the kid - even if he's special - cannot live up to the pressure of the game, and that everyone involved is going to look like an absolute idiot at final whistle, and you can't wait for post-match so you can see Liverpool crash out, and spend the evening laughing at memes on reddit and the caf.

It's still better than winning 3-0 away from home and then failing to secure promotion at home.

Joking aside: has anyone in the last 3 years claimed that Bayern are a well-run club?

And again, joking aside: I wouldn't want to judge Kompany until he's started. Of course it looks underwhelming, but the benefit of the doubt goes to the accused.

I think most people on this forum who complained about the Glazers have used Bayern as an example for a well run club and that changed only very recently. Replacing Nagelsmann with Tuchel was seen as a decision of a ruthless board that doesn't shy away from difficult decisions and it was bemoaned that the Glazers/Woodward aren't as decisive.

In my opinion Bayern being clowns started with them appointing Brazzo and (to some degree) Kahn as executives.

 Fantastic summary.

It is a bit funny/tragic to see all the managers including Kompany that gets a call before someone like Mourinho.

It’s hard to really judge Kompany at Burnley for me. A pretty terrible squad to begin with and he plays a certain way, which you just don’t have the players for. He should have better odds of succes at Bayern really.

I remember Sir Alex expressing a lot of admiration for how Bayern was run. What happened?

In the league they're in it shouldn't be that difficult to establish domination again.

Rummenigge and Hoeneß getting old and not finding working successors, so they are still (too much) involved.

Possibly roughly comparable in a way to what happened at United when SAF retired, just a level higher in the club structure.

Their league got so boring they needed to create self-inflicted chaos. Might be working, Bundesliga audience ratings are up.

Not really. It's the exact same situation, only SAF and David Gill didn't continue to stick their heads in the club's business and make a mess of things after they retired

Note 1: My Norwegian team managed almost that last season, in a play off against relegation. Won 2-0 away and still were relegated after 0-2 at home and losing on penalties. But they really are a circus. Fired the head coach mid season, stole the arch rival’s coach mid season prompting a 50 square m banner of him dangling in a noose next home game, only for him to lead the club down the hatch while the arch rival sniffed at medals.

Note 2: Half the forum has Bayern appointing Nagelsman as our template, the other half think you’re brilliant geniuses for sacking Nagelsmann to get Tuchel, while a third half find sacking Tuchel without a replacement in sight shows what a ballsy upper echelon you have. Neither are they strong at maths.

Note 3: Indeed things are dire when ‘appointed’ is replaced by ‘accused’ as the verb for being hired as Bayern coach.

Latest reports show that Flick was actually agreeing to join for a year but they went for Kompany

Kompany :boring:

Hope they finish ouside of top 4. And I really want to see Dortmund win the Bundesliga next season.

My remark was a cheap dig at the poster who started this thread. His team missed the promotion to the Bundesliga after winning the first leg 3-0 away from home.

Fortuna Düsseldorf, against Bochum? Yea, they did one worse than Vålerenga vs Kristiansund. Up until that they had a fairly good season though, so I get why you say ‘cheap’. :)

I saw them in BuLi Zwei some years back. They have been underwhelming as a club for a while now, haven’t they.

Exactly, they've been run by jokers in the last few years.

In my opinion Bayern being clowns started with them appointing Brazzo and (to some degree) Kahn as executives.
Only that Brazzo was the most successful sporting director in the history of the club. He didn't miss out on a single championship during his time in charge and was responsible for the treble.

Even today, the reason why this team still has it in them to be close to reaching the Champions League Final is due to the people he brought in, Musiala, Sane etc.

People even laughed at him when he signed Nübel, and guess what? The guy became no.1 goalkeeper at the club that just finished above us and there are now talks again about when he might come back to Bayern.

Since Brazzo left, every single squad related decision made the squad worse. I don't count Harry Kane, as it is now save to say that it was also 95% Brazzo's work. Even Tuchel confirmed it before leaving.

Yes, exactly. I was referencing Düsseldorf since the OP is a Fortuna Düsseldorf supporter. (sorry @FortunaUtd :( )

They are underwhelming when compared to their history and potential, but they have been quite steady since going up from the 3rd to the 2nd divison in 2009. In the last 15 seasons they have been playing Bundesliga 3 times and the other 12 seasons were spent in the 2nd divison. The last 4 seasons they came in 5th, 10th, 4th and 3rd.

I'm not sure SAF didn't tbh.

As for Bayern, it's almost like the DFB told them to start pissing around after 11 in a row to make it interesting again.

Somewhat of a Moyes to United vibes. I think seeing Xabi Alonso's success at Leverkusen are changing how top clubs recruit their managers these days.

Bayern are a lot more trigger happy in sacking failing managers though, so we'll see what happens.

ITs funny when United hired Ole, he was a manager who got relegated...

Bayern according to the caf, best run club, they dont make mistakes, hire a relegated manager but its different because he was recommended by Pep.

Don't think this compares to Xabi. Xabi was sought after before he joined Leverkusen, Gladbach were very close to signing him a couple of years before but he decided to stay at Sociedad. I think within footballing circles it was known he was a talented manager.

I quite honestly like it more because it is consistent with how you'd read it out loud.

I wonder how many names in this whole Bayern manager search were ones they actually approached, and how many were just drummed up by the media for clicks?

Wonder if someone name dropped LvG to be brought back into that club - not as manager but as some kind of advisor of sorts. I know he had his falling outs but from what I gathered he was also largely credited with getting that club on the successful rail it had been on since.
