Leicester City have been charged by the Premier League for allegedly breaking spending rules during their last three seasons in the top flight.

Leicester have been referred to an independent commission for breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and failing to submit audited finances.

If found guilty, Leicester could face a points deduction.

The Championship leaders are also subject to a separate financial probe by the English Football League (EFL).

Every professional club in the country except Man City will have an FFP points deduction at this rate.
 
This is getting beyond a joke now. Even with City obfuscation, dealing with everyone but them is taking the piss.
 
The more the FA ignore City (and prob to a lesser extent Chelsea) the more credibility they lose. Becoming an utter joke now. Clubs could have points deduction, appeal, and not have appeal heard till after season end with possible incorrect relegation or miss out on promotion.

Crazy that city 115 outstanding charges but nothing is done about them.

Not going to defend clubs who break the rules and are punished as a result, but to say it leaves a sour taste when 115 Charges FC goes unpunished at the same time would be an understatement.
 
Loads of City comments in this thread and I do get it but these PSR breaches are chump change compared to 115 charges. I don't have all that much faith in the PL but City is massively complicated and moving at a glacial pace due to the multitude of legal issues involved. It is going to take time but I will reserve my contempt for when and if the PL bottle it, for now we just have to wait and see what happens and realistically we could still be a couple of years away from resolution due to the vast army of lawyers at the disposal of 115.
 
They're obviously planning to deduct points from every team in the Premier league so it doesn't change anything when all things are finished.

The City trial, if it happens, will be dirty. Diplomatic pressures would probably come into play. The perks of being a state owned club.
 
All I can say, from an absolutely neutral standpoint, is that I’ve always been against points deductions being postponed to the following season and it’s imperative they are docked 20 points tomorrow, with no right to appeal.
 
I've been following football & Leicester City for over 60 years but between VAR & FFP I feel the soul is being slowly sucked out of football . When Newcastle can be sold to less than upright people who want to use them as a vehicle for sports washing & Man C get caught cheating but refuse to co-operate I get the feeling that the Premier league have sold their soul & only money counts any more.

Yeah I agree. The City trial won't be City v PL - it'll basically be UK Government v UAE therefore I really can't see a very heavy punishment. The PL will need to look like they have handed a severe punishment out so there will be some negotiations in the background so every party is happy.

It’ll end up being a record fine. The PL will brag about how the severity of the punishment matches the crime, and the UAE will laugh it off.

It can also be combined with "the biggest points fine in history" - an 'unprecedented' total, something like 60+pts - that, so long as it's issued at the start of a season, sees them survive relegation and take their punishment, all in one go.

They can be 'punished' without it impacting them in any shape or form outside of a temporary intermission in title races, which is the beauty of such nonsense as far as the powers that be are concerned. Once such a fine and points total is issued, the matter is put to bed and that's that.

This won't happen.

The strength of the PL rests entirely with the clubs. The clubs will not stand idly by as City get a slap on the wrist while other clubs are getting punished properly.

There will be a big punishment but it will fall short of what they deserve is my estimate.

I think for anything PL need 14 clubs to vote in their favor. Can see 7 clubs supporting City, there are lot of middle East investors directly or indirectly.

Yeah, you’re right. A points deduction for the cameras that impacts them for one season, then it’s back to normal.

It will be interesting to see if the super league starts getting traction again after the punishment inevitably underwhelms. Personally I’m getting to a stage where I‘d be happy for us to stick two fingers up to the PL and UEFA.

The subjectivity of 'punishment' is also at play here: for some, City should be catapulted into space and sent to the bottom of the football pyramid if they will have them, for others it's them being stripped of their titles etc. and then there's those that just want it acknowledged that they're cheats who should have all achievements null and voided.

No matter what's issued, some camps are not going to be happy - the punishment we're talking about is far from satisfactory as far as I/we are concerned, but at the same time, it is factually unprecedented, and for some, it will be seen as appropriate. There's plenty of wiggle room for those meting out whatever they do because of this grey area.

I actually think the more clubs get punished for it, the more chance of City getting absolutely railed when it's their time.

It can't go the other way because the outcry will be horrific, I could imagine the fans of other clubs taking it into their own hands protesting and getting games called off when they play City. Every time this happens the pressure gets bigger and bigger and bigger to do something about City so it must highlight how seriously they're taking it.

Or it really is a whitewash job using diplomatic pull and a shitload of money in backhanders and that'll be blatantly obvious too.

Personally, I think the UAE will laugh at anything that falls short of permanent expulsion from the football league. It's systematic cheating and fraud at the end of the day, and they're pulling every trick they can to undermine the subsequent investigation and legal process. We all know they're more powerful than the ruling football bodies, this saga will only confirm it.

You just cannot let organisations like this stay in the competition.

This doesn't matter. The top clubs don't need Middle East investors. The threat of a Super League/legal ramifications from the big clubs is enough to ensure the punishment will be big.
