Leeds United 15 point deduction!!!

This is just stupid, I'm not a Leeds fan but ffs West Ham get away with fecking lying and cheating and Leeds get kicked in the face after having their teeth knocked out. Let me be the first to say WTF!

On SSN now.

I'm not Leeds' biggest fan but talk about kicking them when they are down!

How long before this club will move from this forum and be included in the FC forum? 2 or 3 years at this rate if you ask me......

Good. Pissed me off when they went into administration just before they were confirmed for relegation so the 10 point deduction took affect last season instead of this, they're getting what they deserve.

What a fall they've taken.. (technically still are)

Leeds hit with 15-point penalty
Ken Bates
Bates believes the League One club are now in a good position
Leeds have received permission to play in League One this season after being granted their Football League share but must do so with a 15-point deduction.

The club have appealed against the sanction imposed by the Football League and their case will be heard at a special meeting of all league clubs.

Doubts had been raised over Leeds' future after the club failed to agree a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

The Football League accepted there were "exceptional circumstances".

Interview: Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney

But in making their decision, it was stressed they could not allow Leeds to operate outside the strict rules concerning administration.

Leeds are back under the control of Ken Bates after administrators KPMG sold the club to him for an undisclosed sum.

The CVA would have allowed Leeds to pay off an acceptable amount of their debts to creditors.

"The Football League Board agreed that, notwithstanding the manner in which this administration has been conducted, the club should be permitted to continue in the Football League," said a statement.

"Consequently, the board has decided to make use of the 'exceptional circumstances' provision within the League's insolvency policy, for the first time, and agreed to transfer the club's share in The Football League to LeedsUnited 2007 Ltd. Accordingly, the club's share has now been transferred.

"However, it is acknowledged the club did go into administration and has been unable to comply with the terms of the League's well-established insolvency policy.

"As a result, the board determined this transfer of membership should be subject to Leeds United having a 15-point deduction applicable from the beginning of the 2007/08 season.

"Leeds subsequently have lodged an appeal against this sanction, which will be heard at a special meeting of all League clubs, to be arranged in due course."

Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney met with both KPMG and Bates, telling them to change the CVA, which governs how much creditors will get.

15 points is harsh, and will probably be reduced on appeal. But Leeds are only getting what they deserve. The whole situation with Bates is dodgy. They used a technicality to escape punishment for going into administration at the end of last year. They were deducted ten points from last year's total when they should have started this year minus 10 points. So in a way this poetic justice.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa

I have spent most of the last 41 years hating Leeds, now I almost feel sorry for them, what did I hate " The players of the Revie era especially" and the worst fans of the 70s and 80s where are they now, not watching Leeds I suspect
So whats left to hate Ken Bates for sure but not part of the original Leeds
so do i feel sorry, not quite !!!!

Careful cockney,

Righteous Gods should award points deductions to deserving cases.

West Ham must now be top of that list.

feck off 15 points is harsh. Send them to Conference 1 at least. What about all the poor sods who are owed money by the defaulters. This administration business sucks when applied to football clubs that can just reform and carry on regardless. All their players should be sold and the proceeeds used to pay the schools, businesses, individuals and the IR they owe millions to.

Don't feel sorry for the vile feckers, they wouldn't have shread of sympathy for us if the roles were reversed. Here's a tip, any time you feel yourself feeling the slightest bit sympathetic towards them, remember their fans behaviour at Ewood Park in 1994.

OK,
Circular argument - tapping up a properly registered player - who's that - Tevez - see you in court........

I have never understood why the punishment for going into administration is to make the struggling team struggle even more. I have never liked Leeds but this is stupid. Any chance any of their creditors might have had in recouping some of their money will be knocked on the head by this.

Agreed. Loathsome Bastards.
Remind me what happened at Ewood in 1994.

What a load of bollox - Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney is making things up as he goes along.

Daft bent twat.

Remind me what happened at Ewood in 1994.

They booed and chanted songs about Sir Matt Busby during the minutes silence. They were so bad that even their players were walking over to them and trying to get them to stop.

I share your sentiments...

A lot of small family businesses have gone down due to these games Ken Bates and his likes are playing.

Well deserved.

Excellent point. These greedy feckers think that when the wheel comes off they can just put it all down to experience and start again from scratch.

Well that's what happens when you have massive debt but continue to dig a bigger hole by playing the transfer market.

Indeed. Still, at least Wenger has only paid around 15 million quid this summer for that new shovel to dig that little bit further into Cashburden grave.

Heaven forbid if you werent a big enough club to say, generate record revenues and turnover to pay it off.

15 points just about right.

Its unnatural for a man United fan to feel sorry for Leeds but its a football thing above club rivalry.
It was a dodgy move going bust (and avoiding points deduction) when they were already "down" so as someone said earlier its poetic justice.
Leeds behaviour since then has been disgraceful. basically Bates did not get rich and stay rich by risking his own money. So again he must be mightily pissed off that the takeover by himself and mates of the business that he and his mates ran (while using the law of the land to avoid their own debts). Too clever by half.
I worked for 32 years for Inland Revenue (not exactly at the exalted level of the Lawyers level) but enough to know that if it LOOKS dodgy it usually IS dodgy.
So forgive me if I laugh out loud that Bates is concerned the Revenue is conducting an "illegal war on football!!!!".
Incidently a very large number of Inland Revenue staff are Leeds supporters. One of the biggest IR centres is in Shipley, West Yorks.

As someone else said the 15 points will likely become 10 points so that everybody can pretend they got "justice".
But really the lesson here should be that it is a collective YELLOW card to business men who value their own notion of being a risk taker.

Funnily enough when the new stadium revenues come on stream our revenue will be about the same as yours - of course our profit will be much greater since we're not pissing £60M odd up against the wall every year.

Why does everyone assume that it will be reduced on appeal?

If it merited a lesser punishment, why not just give them that in the first place.

What are Leeds going to say at an appeal that they haven't already said?

United's assets and global brand is still worth more than it's debts...if it ever happened that United were not in a position to pay it's creditors I'm sure there would be a queue of investors willing to buy the club.

I don't think there would be a queue with a £700M millstone round your neck and global interest rates rising. Leeds thought they were bomb-proof with CL football, healthy gates etc etc
