Leeds target Stam

Leeds are keen on signing Lazio defender Jaap Stam as a replacement for Rio Ferdinand, says the Daily Mail.

David O'Leary is ready to spend £10million on him if Ferdinand leaves Elland Road.

Manchester City and Newcastle tried to bring the Dutch international back to England last season, but Stam is keen to stay in Italy.

I still can't get around the fact that we sold him last year. If we had him now, we wouldn't be on the look out for another star defender costing 30+ million.

Perhaps if Lazio sell Stam on they'll be able to pay us for him?

That would be funny as feck though wouldn't it?

Leeds basically pay us. We then give it back to them plus a bit more for Ferdinand. It's just a long way about going about a swap deal really innit? Fergie's a clever cnut isn't he?

Yeah

He bought Veron for 28m then sold Stam to the same club who couldn't afford to pay for him..

Genius

;)

Shut it spanner. I'm referring to the psychological damage this will inflict on Leeds.

you mean they can get MORE psychologically damaged than having DOL as manager and grimsdale as chairman?

;)

Oh I think so yes, why don't you? They're on the slippery slope to oblivion and are risking Nationwide football within 3 years if you ask me.

Yeah

The fact that you might get your cash for Stam is going to be a huge blow...

Leeds fans see a former United player recently convicted of doing drugs, recently suggested to be past his best join their team to replace the up and coming star of English football who moves to the formerly but no longer great ones former club, the hated enemy. I'd say Leeds fans might not take that too well. Do you think they'd all be happy as larry do you?

Doubt it..

There's probably a fair chance that he thinks your clever manager is a cnut

Oh well, that puts an end to that rumour. Thanks Davo. Now, will you clear up the others for us?

If Stam turned down the Massives why would he even consider joining the Sheep ? :p
Thought he said he couldn't bare facing United again. Great attitude for a Leeds player though, to still be in love with us. ;)

Has Stam been paid for? Whats the legal position? If he hasn't been paid for is he a Lazio player or regarded as on loan? Do Lazio have any right to sell him to anyone when the original deal to make him a lazio player is not finalised?

Paper talk!

Stam said today...

"I've heard Leeds have contacted the club about a transfer deal. But I have no desire to play in England again."

To quote the big man himself:

He said: "I have heard stories that Leeds United want to sign me and have contacted Lazio about a transfer deal.

"Lazio have not told me of any approaches and as far as I am concerned I will satill be a Lazio player next season.

"This is not the first time I have been linked with a move back to the Premiership but I have made it clear that time is over. I have no desire to play in England again.

"Perhaps it's inevitable that Leeds will be linked with defenders if they sell Rio Ferdinand, but I have no intention of being his replacement."

Perhaps its me but if they havn't paid for him yet, I doubt they could sell him on without agreement from OT! The original deal hasn't been completed!
