Leeds happy to keep Keane
Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale has insisted he will respect Robbie Keane's decision to stay at Elland Road after he rejected a move to Wearside.
The two clubs announced yesterday that they had agreed an undisclosed fee - thought to be around £8million - for Republic of Ireland striker Keane - as Leeds attempt to reduce a £60million transfer debt.
Even though he also made it clear that Keane is surplus to requirements at Leeds, Ridsdale maintained he would not force the striker out of the club, despite The Black Cats' interest.
"The Sunderland offer was accepted and we were obliged to tell Robbie of their interest," said Ridsdale.
"But if he is not interested in hearing what they have to say, then so be it."
Keane immediately rejected the opportunity to discuss personal terms at the Stadium of Light but Peter Reid will continue to monitor developments as he looks to add to his squad ahead of the new campaign.
