Sorry mate, looks like you just did...

;)
no problem!!
it's strange, yesterday i read about those other 3 possible signings which couldn't go through, and now suddenly they've signed Chiesa!!! suspicious!!!

Not suspicious at all. Lazio seem to be able to get away with whatever they want to do. Besides, I would expect they're getting Chiesa (if they are actually getting him) on a free. Perhaps that changes things a bit?

One rule for Lazio, one for the rest. I'm sick of them. How can they possibly afford his wages etc, when they're despirate to offload Crespo, they can't afford to pay for players they signed before (stam, sorin, mendietta..) It's bollocks. UEFA should step in.

you're right!!!! i can't stand it!!! just like real m a few years ago when they were in such huge depts, they could sign anyone they liked!! unbelievable!!!!

Crespo's Departure
Latest News | News Archive

This from <a href="http://www.soccerage.com" target="_blank">www.soccerage.com</a>
(unfortunately no mention of Crespo to United...)

08/21/2002. Enrico Chiesa's likely move to Lazio could spark a transfer merry-go-round in the Italian market.

Hernan Crespo's arrival at Inter would move a step closer and therefore the Nerazzurri would be able to off load Ronaldo, even if this deal may not be done until next summer.

It would seem that Sergio Cragnotti and Massimo Moratti discussed the Crespo deal yesterday and it could be that Emre plus 25-30 million euros may be enough to take the Argentine to the San Siro.

If the deal doesn't work out, Inter would turn to Parma's Marco Di Vaio (35 million euros), who would then be replaced at the Ennio Tardini by Verona's Adrian Mutu.

jesus!!! every player i'm hoping for, seem to go elsewhere..... now crespo will move to inter!! for money AND Emre!! i rate Emre very much... could be a great addition to our squad!!

Chiesa is a free transfer signing, so money isn't a matter, apart from the wages!
Also, Where the feck are the Man Utd scouts when, Riquelme joins Barcelona for ONLY 7 million pounds!
Jardel joins barca for THREE million only.
Ibrahimovic is joining Sunderland for SIX million only and he's only 20 years old! PERFECT for United!
Come on United! jesus you'd think they was doing it on purpose just to piss us off!

Those three player transfers were blocked by the FIGC because Lazio failed to deposit 30% of the transfer fees as had been demanded to protect the clubs involved (small ones).

Chiesa is on a free so no transfer fee probs there. Whether they can afford the payroll doesn't seem to be a concern for FIGC right now.

It was a well known fact Riquelme was leaving on the cheap. Scouts don't come into it, I guess Fergie simply didn't want him.

On this Lazio thing.
Surely if United were interested in one of their players it would pay to wait as long as possible. If Lazio really are desperate to 'get rid' of squad members then they're more likely to sell for less when they know a European transfer deadline is approaching?
This, of course, could possibly work in the opposite direction and if Lazio know United are desperate to sign someone they could hold out for more.
This post is going nowhere fast. I'm quitting... <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

They couldn't afford Mendieta already so Barca paying now doesn't leave them with any cash for Chiesa does it?
<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> at Lazio's bonkers financial management

ok... but still strange!!

living in holland, i can tell you that one player united Must try to sign is Raphael van der Vaart!!! he's really fantastic! and only 19 years old! but rumours have it here, that barca and realm are interested to take him next season! he has spanish family, and could be the reaon to join one of those 2!

This thread took a surprising turn...

yeah i know, but just wanted to let you know.... he's really fantastic!! unbelievable at some times!!

but back to the subject, Let's hope we'll sign hernan crespo!!! or else, a back-up for ruud or ole, because i think 3 strikers (forlan?) is not enough for the season...

We know, thank you. Ajax have been the team to watch this month, van der Vaart being a major attraction.

Chiesa confirmed as a Lazio player.
<a href="http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia" target="_blank">www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia</a>

Apparently he's signed a two year deal worth £800,000 a season but if he fails to play within the first 60 days of the contract it will be null and void.
Crespo 'confirmed' to be in talks with Inter.
If United are serious about winning the Champions League they really MUST move to add depth to the squad. A player like Crespo should be of interest to us.

crespo "in talks" with inter.... :-(
it seems we're missing out on a few players we'd like to sign, Escude, Crespo!!! but we've still got ten days to go... so, let's hope sir alex will do the business as usual! we've got to have trust in him!

When you say 'we'd' like to sign I take it you mean the supporters?
My guess would be that Ferguson has something up his sleeve, otherwise he wouldn't have gone public about his desire for a fourth striker a couple of weeks ago. The same goes about a defender (or two as he hinted he would like)
Don't you just love the way United drag things out right up to the last day of a transfer deadline!!!

Crespo is talking to Inter and not us in order to stay healthy and injury free.

yeah, i meant that!!! because i think you're right, he has something in mind which will happen!! he already has picked a few names to sign, and than before the transfer deadline united will sign those players and we're all happy!! but right now, it's taking so long... we've got 10 days to go, but i just want those players as soon as possible!! just can't wait..

Did you know Boca signed (4-month loan) the Zalafeckit TSE star player early this month? Their top scorer last year.

Now I understand what SAF meant when he said Boca have been very helpful to us recently.

I seem to remember with Taibi that there were problems and we signed him the day after the deadline. Hope that doesn't happen with anyone important.

Weird news that, didn't expect Lazio to be signing anyone, though the free makes sense. I'm getting a bit worried now, because every move Alex has tried, other than Rio, has failed to materialise. His recent comments suggest he's not entirely happy about this, and doesn't have anything up his sleeve that we don't know about. I'm sure he wanted to do some deal with Lazio, but it fell through, and now Escude looks likely to fall through. Carini still looks likely to me, the wages being talked about are actually only 20k which ain't much, Becks is on 4 times that. But he's another short and eccentric keeper, which worries me. 4th striker is still the priority, and its on that front that things are most dead. Maybe this latest round of the transfer merry go round before the deadline will result in one coming our way. If emre, mutu and crespo are available, perhaps it could be one of these. TBH though I don't know what kind of striker Alex is looking for since Crespo is nothing like PDC.

Eccentric? I would call him anything but eccentric.

Ok, I remembered that wrong. I don't know much about him, I did read this from the BBC website though:
At first sight Fabian Carini does not appear tall enough to be a world-class goalkeeper.

However, what he lacks in height, he more than makes up for in ability.

Denied a regular first-team spot at Juventus because of the presence of Gianluigi Buffon, Carini is nevertheless willing and able whenever he is called upon by his national team.

In a side which sometimes struggles to score, Carini has been hugely important at keeping them in the game - his saves alone won several of Uruguay's points during qualifying.

He sometimes struggles on crosses, but is working hard on improving that aspect of his game.

Prior to the World Cup Carini moved from one European giant to another, leaving Juve for Barcelona on a one-year loan deal.

<a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport3/worldcup2002/hi/team_pages/uruguay/newsid_2021000/2021114.stm" target="_blank">Barca loan deal</a> - What happened to it?

The loan deal with Barcelona was not very clear at the time. I don't know if he has an EU passport, if he doesn't that could explain it as Barca already have too many non-EU players (Riquelme arriving probably didn't help).

It could be a similar situation to the one with Arsenal. Basically, he wants to move to get more action. If he is going to be stuck in the bench he might as well stay in Turin, don't you think?

I'm curious as to why people want Crespo? he is a good player in the right circumstances but I cant really see him and Ruud forming a partnership and then the prolific Ole gets dropped again

My theory on why SAF's transfers are always long winded and frustrating:

SAF wants players to be desperate to come here. He only wants players who come (or send their agents) and break his door down begging to join us. It makes sense when you think about it.

I guess that by declaring his intention to sign a striker and/or another defender was a clear message inviting players and their agents to state their intention.

It appears to have worked with Escude (in so far as him wanting to come) but not with any striker that I'm aware of.

Whatdathink folks ?

Hillarious. So our manager doesn't choose players, he just shook the strikers tree to see who falls off? Come on...

Escuse was our target before he started his little war with Rennes.
