Last year Lance Amstrong was the best sportsman of the year...the guy only one on trophy..And he wasn`t even the best of his SPORT...He only competes in FRANCE TOUR...The ITALIAN GIRO/SPANISH VUELTA/...THAT makes me mad...Schumaker his the greatest of all time in F1 winning everthing..Just like ROSSI the guy every year makes himself a chalenge because there are no competition...125cc/250cc/500cc/500cc and now he changed his motorcycle to another one that his slower..

USA ARE THE BEST in making advertising turning a completly unknown person into a phenomenon....LIKE ADU..if he came to EUROPE he was playing in a 2divison somewhere in BELGIUM...Or Lebroon James...They say that he is one of the most famous persons in the world???????WHAT WORLD...USA WORLD?????For sure....i bet that if you ask someone outside of USA who`s Lebroon James...they dont know him...1 of 8million persons know him...

Do you even know the story of Lance Armstrong? Repeated winner of one of the hardest competitions in the world after having recovered from full blown testicular cancer. Its an amazing achievment for anyone to win the Tour, its even more amazing to win it repeatedly like he has, in his case a superhuman achievment.

That doesnt make him the best sportsman in the world...it doesnt matter if you were dead and came back to win only one thing....TOur of FRANCE is only made one time per year...It doesnt matter if he won it last year...Tour of SPAIN and ITALY are also difficult and he didnt compete there..

Anyways it wasnt as big as we may have put across. Its not like it makes him the best Sportsperson of the year.
Corina Morariu came back from some major disease(not sure what it was..).Give her a feckin trophy too then...so feck if she hasnt won anything.

And lagostin, its not like you have to regard the laureus awards as the be all and end all of all sports awards. There are loads of other ways of honoring them.
I respect laureus because they do some amazing charity work, evidence of which i have seen in my own country.

"I met world class cyclist Lance Armstrong at his home in Austin on a bright Texas day...like me, he had recently finished up his surgical and chemo treatments and it appeared that we were having a hair growing race--he was slightly winning! He appeared in fine health and spirits and was very down to earth to talk to. Over lunch we discussed his Testicular Cancer (TC) experience and subsequent treatments, as well as his newly created cancer foundation and upcoming charity bike ride "The Race for the Roses" March 23d, 1997"

Get your facts right.

not quite the whole story there but a good bit of google research.

try his official website bio for more detail:

The man who had been featured in attention grabbing headlines such as "Du Pont Dominator" and "The Golden Boy of American Cycling," was literally forced off his bike in excruciating pain in October of 1996. Tests revealed advanced testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and his brain.
