Claudio Lopez
"I received a call from a club director on Thursday and he sounded me out about a move to Manchester United. I told him I was flattered and to link up with Juan Veron again would be great - but he said Veron is part of the deal. He will join Lazio while Sorin and I will join United. The club have arranged for us to travel to England very soon to discuss terms with Manchester United."
TribalFootball:
Athletic Mineiro president Ricardo Guimaraes has confirmed that Manchester United have tabled an offer for World Cup winning midfielder Gilberto Silva.
"The only ones to make serious offers have been English clubs and the Turks from Fenerbahce.
"The best one we have had has come from Manchester United."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed last week that the club was looking at "two or three" stars from the World Cup.
PlanetFootball:
BARCELONA defender Carles Puyol claims to have an offer from Manchester United, but a new contract at Camp Nou looks to be very much in the pipeline.
The Spanish international, who can play at right back or in the centre of defence, enjoyed an impressive World Cup and Sir Alex Ferguson did admit his top targets' values increased following their displays in the Far East.
"I am not satisfied with the offer that the English team has made for me," Puyol is quoted as saying in the Italian media.
"I am still not convinced and I will speak with the club this week."[B/]
However, the all-action defender has been in negotiations over a new deal in Catalunya, and had only expressed an interest in playing in England or Italy at a much later stage in his career.
"I am calm," he told the local press.
"I have always said that I have two years left on my contract, and remember I am not the one going to the club requesting anything.
"I have been made an offer but I have said to them that I do not agree with it."

Ronaldinho
"People are saying I will be going to Barcelona or Manchester United, but I have never been contacted by either club. I'm motivated for the coming season. PSG need me and I have four years left on my contract"
I'm sure you already know of the Rio quotes where even if he is uncertain, it shows he is very seriously considering joining us and both parties are aware that if he decides to join us then Leeds won't stop him.
Of the above quotes the most nonsensical one to me is the Gilberto Silva one, I can't see any need for him when we have Keano and Butt - which makes me hope that there is no truth to this one, and that it is actually some other club that is the likely candidate, because otherwise he'd be coming here as a replacement rather than an extra man - and he ain't replacing Veron because he's a DM. The Lopez deal might make a lot of sense in that it would solve three of our problems in one stroke. Puyol would also be a great buy, he had a very impressive season with Barca last season, and a good world cup, but maybe he is wanting silly money, and he doesn't exactly sound enthusiastic about joining us.
