Latest news from France = Nothing new

Today French weekly France Football published a file about transferts concerning players playing in France and French players. I don't think there is one new target...(Price in millions of Euros). These are just the players United has an eye on, obviously there is nothing concrete

- Olivier KAPO, Auxerre : Attacking midfielder, 22 years old
Arsenal, Juventus, PSG, Lyon and Marseille are also interested
Price: 10M€

- RONALDINHO, PSG : Attacking midfielder, 23 years old
Inter, Juventus and Milan AC are also interested
Price : 40M€

- Daniel VAN BUYTEN , Marseille : Central defender, 25 years old
Newcastle and Juventus are also interested
Price : 15M€

- Sylvain ARMAND, Nantes : Left Back, 22 years old
Lyon, Manchester City, Blackburn, Lazio, Bayern, Juventus are also interested
Price : 7M€

- Petr CECH, Rennes : Goalkeeper, 20 years old
Arsenal and Dortmund are also interested
Price : 10M€

- Eric DJEMBA, Nantes : Defensive midfielder, 21 years old
Valencia and Juventus are also interested
Price : 7M€

- Sidney GOVOU, Lyon : Striker, 23 years old
Milan AC, Juventus, Inter, Liverpool are also interested
Price : 20 or 25M€

- Carl MEDJANI, Saint-Etienne, Central Defender,18 years old
Arsenal, Bayern and la Coroña are also interested
Price : Not mentioned

- Mickaël ESSIEN, Bastia : Defensive midfielder, 20 years old
Inter, Bayern, Parma, Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester City, Everton, Hertha Berlin, Lyon, PSG, Marseille, Monaco, Nantes are also interested
Price : 7M€

- Julien ESCUDE, Rennes : Left Back/Center Defender, 23 years old
Lyon, Arsenal and Leeds are also interested
He has spoken in March with Sir Alex when he attended Rennes-Auxerre
Price : 6M€

- Mario YEPES, Nantes : Central Defender, 27 years old
Chelsea, Leeds, Lazio, Juventus, La Coroña are also interested
Price : 10M€

- Lilian THURAM, Juventus : Central Defender/Right Back, 31 years old
Inter is also interested
Price : between 10 and 15M€
Said one day : who would refuse to play for Manchester United ?

- Anthony REVEILLERE, Valencia, Right Back, 23 years old
Valencia, Lyon, Real Madrid are also interested
Price : 5,5M€

Two big surprises :

Manchester United is not cited among the clubs interested by Djibril CISSE, although a journalist said yesterday on the French radio that he was Ferguson's priority. France Football cites Liverpool, Juventus, Barcelona, Marseille.

Philippe MEXES should stay in Auxerre until 2004, unless a very big offer make change Auxerre's board mind (Roma, Juventus, Real, Arsenal being the other clubs interested.)

I read that Medjani is out of contract this summer, so he will move. And sounds like a good investment for the future; he's been considered a star defender at an early age like Mexes was, but having such a young defence does not help in attracting young talents. BTW did you learn anything more about him?

We have some history with Essien: was spotted by United before he came to Europe, who wanted him to sign with Royal Antwerp, but he chose France. But I heard his club will sell, because he has just one year left on his contract. The priority for a defensive midfielder depends on an assesment of Keano's fitness, if he has to 'retire' more as a CB, then we look a little light with Butt, Phiz, and Stewart.

Looks like becoming one of the top world keepers; it would be great to have him as Fabs' #2. Especially with Fabs' injuries, Roy and Ricardo are not good enough IMHO.

Medjani : he's only 18 years old so he would be an investment for the future, but not a short term first team player. Apparently Saint-Etienne has made an error with his contract, so he will certainly leave this year. He did visit Carrington with Sir Alex. Unfortunately Arsenal seems the most likely club to get him, as Arsenal and Saint-Etienne have links.

Essien : look at the number of clubs who would like to get him, it says much about his quality. I think that we need another defensive midfielder too. But apparently Inter is the best placed club to have him. Bayern is also more than interested.

Elf, what do you think of those players on the list..... do you rate any of them?

Frankly, all these players have an excellent reputation in France and are very good.

Personally I would chose Cisse (I hope FF is wrong, even if Govou is good too)and Essien (because as I often say I would like another DM) .

Escude (even if I think he should stay in France, will he play at United ? )is the most likely to join.

Van Buyten would do well in England too.

I'd like Ronaldinho even if I have some reserves with his behaviour , but who would he replace ? I don't want one of our attacking midfielder to leave.

Thuram I would have liked to have him, he's a great player and a great guy, but now it could be too late .

ah..well most you've mentioned are quite well known to United fans..

....and Mexes? i thought you would wanted him to play for United.. i've seen him a few times, and he looked a classy player.

BTW- what happened to Mourad Meghni?

Yes I would like him too...But apparently Mexes will stay with Auxerre until 2004.

Meghni is playing in Iraly, with Bologne. He hasn't played many games yet I think. He is in the French team of the under-19.

Where is John John-John ? ;)

Djemba : he is mentioned in my post ! Apparently we are very interested by him. We are the first in line, while some clubs are better placed than us for Essien.

Landreau : he would not be interested by a number two place. Knowing him, it would be impossible, and Fab is still there...

Well we should be in with a chance because Arsenal are getting the swiss central defender Senderos (nineeteen year old), who even Wenger has already been mentioning when he talks about his defence.
We were courting Senderos a few months back, but he chose Arsenal becuase they had an older defence, and he thought it would be harder to get into the United team.
Anyway we don't have a young CB near that age, that would compete directly with him as Senderos would, who is rated very highly(was one of the stars of last summers EUFA youth cup).
Also Arsenal will probably buy a ready replacement for Keown this summer (like John Terry ?); so if they manage to sign another young quality CB like Medjani along with Senderos, that would suprise me; good for the gooners but some tough competition for the youngsters.?

I haven't seen the game (against Israel,4-1).

I'll do a post about our youngest talents soon, as I had promised to Gabe.
