He was very accomplished, hooked on the stuff since his teens by all accounts. But even the most hardened junkie could not take the amount of black tar heroine he took that day without ending up dead within the time it takes to get to the heart.
There was a study into it to try and disprove it (in Nick Broomfield's documentary on Cobain, he referred to it to dispell the "myths"), where a subject INGESTED methodone and proceeded to perform random tasks on demand.
The fact Kurdt applied heroine neat straight into his blood stream was above Broomfield's head.
Legend. Not the most technical vocalist or guitarist out there, but it's almost like he injected feelings into songs.

I can confirm that it is physically possible to shoot yourself in the head with a Shot gun, and you can reach the trigger with your fingers....If the barrels are put into the side of your head you can reach the trigger.
I checked on my Trap gun, with a standard 24inch barrel.
Kurt Cobain was shot with an automatic rifle though...An army surplus M16 was discovered by his body and this is shorter than a shot-gun and the bullet from this would have been like a hot knife through butter.
Impossible, it would have been messy but the head would still be attached, you heard the expression blew his brains out...that would be possible but the shell of the head would remain apart from the entrance and exit wounds.
