IMO he is currently the best overall wicket keeper in the world. Great batsman and good with the gloves as well. he's quality.

Aye he's quality DD...a very "correct" batsman, no mean feat reading Murali behind the stumps. In fact should easily command a regular place in the team without the gloves.

The World is blessed with great wicketkeeper batsmen at present.

Very good player. But Gilchrist is far ahead of the rest.

Very tough call. I like Sangakara who has sometimes single-handedly held (no pun intended) a poor Sri Lanka side together.

But Gilchrist is still playing (and playing well) who has set the standard which both Sangakara and Akmal are following. Gilchrist is still the sensai due to the fact he has done it all.

Not far behind Jacobs and Dhoni aren't exactly doing too badly either.

I think Dhoni is up there with the likes of Akmal. Imran Khan was asked to compare them and he couldnt because of their differing styles, and said he was eager to see how they both fare over the next few years.

Gilchrist is just on a different level IMO in terms of wicket keeper batsman. It helps being in one of the best teams of all time. But hes both a match winner and hes consistant, which is hard to find. The new lot of Dhoni and Akmal should be amongst the best in world cricket for years to come. Gilcrist has set the standard though. Everyone will be compared to him.

Unarguably Dhoni has a good eye hand bat coordination like Akmal. The only difference I can see is Akmal is probably marginally better with wicketkeeping gloves on. Also Akmal has made centuries in both forms of the game against top opposition (i.e. Australia, England and India).

Dhoni hasn't. Yet.

Gilchrist has been class for a while now, but his recent test match innings have been quite poor I think.

He is allrounder. Him and Gilchrist are two players who would get into the side based on their wicketkeeping or their batting. Dhoni and Akmal are up and coming players but I am not sure about their glove work, both seem to be in the side due to them being able to make runs rather than wicketkeeping skills.

He hasnt had the chance to. Whatever hes done so far hes done magnificently. Thing with him is, hes a true match winner. And his ODI record is incredible, i doubt Akmals comes close to that.
Not much to choose overall IMO.. Dhoni has actually been keeping really well of late.. Akmal dropped a sitter in the last ODI. But it will be interesting to see how each does over the next few years.

Amol, you haven't really being paying attention if you think Akmal hasn't done much. I can't be bother typing the reasons.

Never said that. Hes a class player and would get into the side as a batsman alone, hes that good. But i dont think theres much between the two, both excellent talents and have different styles.. cant really compare yet.

Gilchrist is at a different level and cannot be compared with any other kepper. Even in an all time World XI Gilly can walk in as the 4 or 5 down batter purely on his batting merit alone. When he first burst in to the scene there was some pressure on him as he succeeded Healy. But he has ended up being better than both Rod Marsh and Healy. Take the best out of Dujon and Greenidge, there is a Gilchrist.
