Seems to be getting rave reviews.

When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed 'low life scum' Naoise and Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in their native Irish language, KNEECAP fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue. But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries and politicians trying to silence their defiant sound -- whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies. In this fiercely original sex, drugs and hip-hop biopic KNEECAP play themselves, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures.

Apparently tipped for an Oscar now. I would have assumed that it would be a shite/amateur YouTube video kind of thing, guess not ! Anyone seen it? Any good?

It's also forcing people to confront how rampant drug use is in the youth, which I find hilarious because....were you not paying attention? Drink costs more than a few pills these days so of course the young wans be trying to save cash for Pokémon cards condoms

Aren't these the ones Grian Chatten of Fontaines did a tune with?

Will give this a watch.

This definitely sounds like Oscar bait.

It's probably good, but you know awards and critics are suckers for throwing in a few extra high scores for a film that tackles a social issue.

Going to see it on Wednesday. Sounds interesting. Never listened to their music but expect to be bursting with nationalist pride by the end of it, walking home whistling the Wolfe Tones.

Doesn’t sounds as thought it tackles a social issue, any more than Trainspotting did. Supposed to be a similar sort of film too. Will report back after I’ve seen it.

Derry girls meets the Beastie boys. They seem good lads and know what they are doing all part to them.

Everything I've heard about the film suggests it's really good I hope to be going to see it

The perception already long existed Ireland is just full of fighting drunks and druggies, and every notable movie that comes out set in Ireland (or Northern Ireland) does nothing to change that perception. Know thyself I guess.

You think? You’ll have to remind me about all the other Irish movies full of “druggies”? Plus I’m fairly sure nobody gets drunk at any point in this movie.

Pogue comes out fighting, probably on drugs.

Trainspotting, Banshees of Isherin, In Bruges (exporting Irish customs to Belgium), Saltburn (Irish guy doing drugs in England), The Crying Game ....etc etc

For a start Trainspotting is set in Edinburgh.

Yeah the two are basically the same though right. Both heretics to the English Crown. Though one of its biggest stars was Irish. Once again exporting Irish customs.
That's a fair point, as you were.

Transporting is Scottish. Asides from salt burn (which I haven’t seen), the other movies aren’t about druggies, they have drug themes , but nothing like the trainspotting kind of painting scottish people are crazed drug users.

And I did chuckle at you picking the crying game. Nobody remembers that for anything to do with drugs.

Interesting fact, the start of the crying game was filmed just up the road from me in Laytown.

You forgot that Bertie Ahern biopic, The Wolf of Merrion St.

Forgot I made this thread. Great read. I still haven't seen the movie.

Hope this helps.

I think they are better actors than they are rappers, but I generally hate rap. They were believable as their characters, so I was surprised to learn that the band was actually a real thing and that the real guys were playing themselves. The most interesting part to me was how they were received by the public, and even groups like the one in the film that told them to stop pushing drugs. Hard to believe any of it was real, but that's Belfast for you.

I suppose afters Goldie Lookin' Chain and Rubberbandits anything is possible.

It's hard to believe much of it was real because it wasn't. It's a fictionalised version of their origin story. In don't think there's much in it that actually happened to them.

Are we arguing? I'm not even sure what's going on here. I like Rubberbandits (and Goldie Lookin' Chain too). Hip hop rap has evolved. I'm more on the Death Grips side of the equation now though.

I wasn't arguing but we can if you like. You pretend to like Elon Musk and I'll pretend to really dislike launching space shuttles.
