Seems like this guy is having a good season with Hoffenheim based on WhoScored's rating system.

Is there some readers in here who have can give a quick review and tell me if he has the potential of being a Man Utd player?

We really need a winger and Bale would probably be too expensive and not likely to leave.

Only plays well when the team does so, as well. Often goes missing against stronger opposition too. These are my impressions of him, at least. I haven't watched most of Hoffenheim's games against weaker teams though (most of his good games).
As for his style of play, again, according to my limited impressions - he plays mostly on the right, yes, but cuts in more often than not, as Hoffenheim like to attack mostly trough the middle, as direct as possible. He's strong, fast, has a good engine and likes to take risks but that's what his team's style is based on, so I don't think he has a choice in the matter. He hasn't particularly impressed me with anything else.

Good player based entirely on me signing him up on FIFA 12. "I knew him before all of yis!!!"

Tbh his current season is not that impressive. While he's playing a lot on the wing, I see him as a striker. Orignially he's from the local club I support, so I kind of kept following him at Hoffenheim.
He's very strong for his size and likes to utilizie his body strength. He definately doesn't have to bulk up anymore. He's still pretty quick, though. He's techniqually skilled and can beat his man, yet he is no dribbler and if we'd be looking for such a player, he wouldn't be the right guy to look at.

Volland has a very good work ethic and a great character, but he wouldn't be much more than a decent addition to the squad. And that for around 10-15m. He's not really the player we need.

Thanks. Sounds like he is a no-goer then :)

Great little player. Can play right winger or striker, keen eye for goal and has very good technique. He'll be a very good player for Germany.

Not totally based off last night as I have seen him play for Hoffenheim a few times last season, but spurred on by it certainly. I wonder if he would be a good option for us as he can play on the right ore as a #9.

@Balu @Blackwidow How is he rated in Germany as the potential next main #9 for the national team?

It's all a bit quiet about him, but he's clearly incredibly talented. Almost made it into the World Cup squad last year, but for some weird reason Löw decided to take a 6th centerback instead of a 2nd striker. I still don't get why Dortmund didn't buy him last year, he would have been perfect in Klopp's team.

Yeah that didn´t work out all that well for the Germans...... Oh wait!

Dortmund dont seem keen to splash the cash at the moment. Theyre dithering on Geis because they dont value him as high as Mainz do. Reminds me of Arsenal/United a few years back.

He definitely seems like he would have been a better choice than Immobile. It's odd that none of the bigger teams in Germany let alone abroad have made a move for him, he seems to have a bit of everything in his locker and can play wide or up top.

We went into the tournament with a barely fit Klose as our only real striker option, who wasn't ready to start in the first week of the tournament. The fact that it worked out, Klose found his fitness and Müller worked like a charm as the lone striker in the first 4 games doesn't really change that it was a huge huge risk and an injury or suspension to Müller would have seen us struggle for options while we had 6 centerbacks in the squad.

Volland's versatility and quality would have been an excellent addition and would have made the squad much more balanced, even if he didn't get to play at all. I'm not sure what's wrong with mentioning that.

I don´t think that this is actually true and I am also not convinced that Volland is a good #9; especially not for Dortmund. You can´t play long balls into him and expect him to do anything with it. He´ll lose them 9/10 times. He might have been a great fit for Dortmund but not as replacement for Lewandowski.

He is a guy who moves around to getting 1-2 touches on the ball to finish/pass+move. That’s why he was shining in the free-flowing system in Hoffenheim, where he could play off a central forward. If you want to use him as #9, the team needs to be incredibly dominant with great build-up. That’s possible in U-national teams, where quality differences are huge. There are only few top teams, who could make good use oh him in such a role and most of them have better alternatives.

He doesn´t have the right skill-set to play as #9 for Manchester United.

Well yeah, that's of course true, but there wasn't a direct replacement for Lewa available anyway and with a few adjustments, I'm sure Volland could have been excellent. He'd be similar to Aubamayang, who clearly was the only well working striker for Dortmund last season and with Reus injured so often, they could have easily fitted both Auba & Volland into their starting line-up most of the time.

Seems like a good young player. Hoffenheim have a half decent team, don't they.
