can be a good foil for Ruud in my opinion. we need a sheringham type back player. im no patriotic but we should have an english striker in the first team. if phillips played for a "top team" people would probably put him in the "top european striker category". its also quite embarrassin considerin juve and madrid (our two biggest rivals in world football) have del piero, raul and morientes (sp) in their ranks, and we call chelsea a foreign team.

... or defoe of course

I think Phillips could be an excellent signing for United. He definately knows where the goal is.

I think for us he could emulate the 30 goals he got in his first PL season.

He also scores difficult goals as well, not just tap ins.

However, could he be too much like OGS?.

Also, I think I would prefer a quicker player up front, someone like Cisse.

He's no spring chicken either. He's good, but not quite good enough at the highest level.

Sunderland have just made a statment saying he's going nowhere...

Phillips is Sheringham style?

Anyway, when people say "Phillips would have already been a top European striker if he plays for a big team" or "England should give a 90-minutes full match to him, and he will definitely perform well.", I just don't think so. A player perform brilliantly for one team, but become totally crap when he moved to a bigger team or play in internation level, there are plenty of this kind of player at any time. Consider his age also, I will say that there are a lot of much better choices than spending 15m+ on him.
