Arsenal ‘make £16 million bid’ for French striker

Reports in France suggest Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to make PSG hitman Kevin Gameiro his latest summer signing.

Arsenal have made a bid believed to be worth £16 million for striker Kevin Gameiro, according to reports in France.

Broadcaster Canal+ is claiming that the Gunners are desperate to land the 25-year-old, who currently plays for mega-rich Ligue 1 outfit Paris St Germain.

Gameiro was an important part of the side which eventually had to settle for second place behind Montpellier last season, scoring 11 goals in 27 league games.

The Gunners are determined to prove their ambition to captain Robin van Persie, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract and has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer.

A lack of viable back-up options for the Dutch star was a major problem for Arsenal last season, with Marouane Chamakh and Ju-Young Park both failing to impress.

However, with the signing of Lukas Podolski already in the bag, it appears boss Arsene Wenger is looking to further rectify the situation with the addition of Gameiro.

Arsenal only managed to qualify for the Champions League on the final day of a topsy-turvy campaign and Wenger will not want to endure a repeat next term.

The Gunners are priced at 1/2 to make the top four in 2012/13, while anyone backing them to win the Premier League title can get stuck into odds of 8/1.

In other words, punters using their free £25 bet for registering with bwin on this selection will pocket £225 if Wenger delivers his first championship since 2004.

Gameiro, who signed for PSG in an €11 million deal from Lorient last summer, has won eight caps for France but did not make the cut for their Euro 2012 squad.

Almost like Arsenal are being linked with strikers to add pressure on van Persie to sign a new deal...

This was only a few days ago...

MELBOURNE Heart could be the unlikely destination for a French star seeking a new club.

The agent of striker Kevin Gameiro has contacted Heart to inquire about the possibility of the 25-year-old playing in Melbourne next season.

If the recruiting coup was to occur, Gameiro would become arguably the best-credentialled player in the A-League.

The eight-time French international made a $14 million move from Lorient to fellow Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain last season, only to quickly fall out of favour with coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Six months before the PSG shift Gameiro was linked to a January transfer to English Premier League club Arsenal.

Heart is known to be opposed to the idea of recruiting a marquee player - who can be paid outside the $2.48 million salary cap for each club - as it seeks to make a profit for the first time next season.

Satisfying Gameiro's wage demands could be the stumbling block.

Gameiro has three years to run on his contract with PSG and Heart is unlikely to be willing to come up with a transfer fee for the 172cm attacker.

But as fanciful as the move sounds, a French source insisted a deal was a possibility.

"He played a lot but he had some problems in France," the source said.

"He can't play for the club in Paris because he has problems with the coach. His agent has searched for another club where he can play more games.

"Melbourne Heart are very interested and the agent of Kevin Gameiro had made contact with them."

Heart officials last night denied the transfer speculation.

So Valencia have signed him from PSG.

Valencia actually tracked him for years and had an agreement to buy him before PSG got cash rich and convinced him to join them instead.

With Lavezzi coming in they seemed to want to sell him and Valencia have given him a second chance to join

Teams are moving fast. Valencia replace Aduriz. Bayern traded out one Croat for another. Monchengladbach lost a CB and have already bought Dominguez instead.

They just sold Aduriz right? so will they pair Gameiro and Soldado?

just looked on the Valencia roster wiki page and they picked up Jonathan Viera from Las Palmas? FM legend :D

Yeah its to replace Aduriz. Not certain that they'll play together rather than compete for a spot like Aduriz had to under Emery. Obviously a different manager now and Canales is injured, but he was the first choice in the hole behind Soldado till he got injured twice last season... Then Jonas came in and did well, but is still a bit goalshy.

I dont really know too much about Gameiro's style but I believe I've read that he's the kind of striker who will set up team mates as well as score himself. If so you would think that he and Soldado would make a good partnership

And yeah they signed Viera. Dont know about him from FM but when they signed him I was looking for clips of him on youtube and he seems to have plenty of ability.

As if he would have signed for Melbourne Heart? Not a chance in hell that would have happened.
