Eugene, are you even listening to me?
I know this won't be news for most of you, but I feel it deserves a mention. Its only the league, and its only Dublin, but its always good to land one on the jackeens early in the year - just so they don't any ideas like.

I thought you were a dub.
Still though good to see them put in their place early doors.

nah, the Dubs have the honour of my residence at the moment, but thats about it.

I think it says time and effort by beating them early in the year so we can concentrate on real rivals like Armagh, Tyrone etc...

you two were very quiet this week, were yis off fishing yesterday ?
catch anything ?

;)

arse

Imagine being the Brazil, Ferrari and All Blacks of the G.A.A.
Pesky All-Ireland medals - they get everywhere y'know.

yeh but by saying the Dubs are the Man Utd of the G.A.A. world I am referring to the constant media glare they are under, ie if one of our players follows through after farting its front page headline in the Evening Herald and thats something which is entirely out of the teams hands ( or arses )

so arse straight back at ye

;)

Its the same in Tralee, for Kerry football. Lose a match and all the old greats are saying that 'the time is gone when Kerry football was the best etc...'.

Its your gaffer thats part of the problem. He sees himself as a media figure as well as a manager. That will never pay dividends. Some of the talk after last weekend was extremely critical of his tactics (not just against Ciarrai) but also his selection policy - which are both fair questions, but all he does is say that he is a victim of the Dublin media - which he then courts. Seems a bit silly. Dublin have a great support base and catchment area, which is an advantage - not a disadvantage
Play the game and let the media look after themselves.
When Kerry were in the All-Ireland every year, the media would descend on the town for a few days and the best they would get from the squad would be - 'put me down for what I said last year'.

You remember the Dublin Daily newspaper - may as well have been called the 'Lyon's Daily'.

Having said that, there are enough good players in Dublin to mount a challenge, but much like Sven and England, he doesn't seem to have made too much progress since the day was appointed.

I'd like to stick by Lyons for the forthcoming championship at least, miracles cant be worked over night and Lyons's predecessors had similar problems. If you ask me its the players who arent up to scratch. They have the technical ability but lack a little tactical nous on the pitch. The Dubs need some forwards with good footballing "brains", aka Jimmy Keaveney / Ciaran Duff / Smokin Joe McNally. Instead we are left with forwards who are easily distracted and sidetracked by opponents wind ups. Instead of getting on with the game they "react" to ribbing from opponents ( which is entirely legal and happens everywhere). They need to become ruthless, regain their legendary "pomp" and play their country cousins at their own game. If they get nowhere this year then Lyons must go and his replacement should be someone with an air of authority who has been there and done that and not necessarily a Dub himself. Having said all that, it is only the National League a competition which is not taken as seriously as the quest for Sam and after only 3 games it seems its the media who have turned this particular molehill into a mountain as far as the Dubs are concerned.

Don't get to attached to the 'Dublin way' - which is not exactly unique by the way. as Lyons seems to think he knows better. Against Ciarrai at the weekend, Dublin had a handy enough 6 point lead as the first half wound down, then after the break when Kerry started to play, it was high ball hail Mary stuff from Dublin - but the blue forwards are not big enough to play that game and Kerry snuffed 'em easy. At the other Kerry flashed it around as usual and picked off the scores (Mike Frank should have a siren).

Either way, I think the players are there in Dublin, jaysus how could they not be. Lyons might need to look away from Kilmacud and Cosgrove for a while, spread it about the county a bit, get a decent freetaker etc...but I think the talent is there and the support is there, all thats needed is direction and focus.
