UNITED FACE ANOTHER LOSS OF CAPTAIN KEANE
Roy Keane is reported to be facing another spell on the sidelines after the Irishman limped out of Manchester United's FA Cup win at Old Trafford. The 31-year-old midfielder was replaced at half-time after suffering a hamstring strain in the first half of the 4-1 triumph over Portsmouth on Saturday.
And the Sunday Mirror claims Keane's injury jinx has struck again with at least a three-week - and five-game - absence likely for the United skipper. Sir Alex Ferguson said on Saturday: "We missed Roy's drive in the second half. He came off with a hamstring strain but we will have to assess it in the morning before we know what the damage is." Keane has already missed four months of the campaign after undergoing hip surgery at the beginning of September. And the impact of his absence was clear to see at Old Trafford once again on Saturday as United lost their air of superiority without him.
United had threatened to overwhelm the Nationwide League title hopefuls with the inspirational Keane at the helm of a flowing midfield. Yet, forced to operate in his absence, the Reds became sloppy and were nearly made to pay by Pompey with the score at 2-1. "We got lazy and casual in our passing and in the second half Portsmouth made it really hard for us."
