Keane charged

Manchester United captain Roy Keane was today charged with bringing the game into disrepute following the release of his controversial autobiography.

Keane could face a lengthy ban if found guilty of either of the two disrepute charges imposed by the Football Association are upheld.

However, having undergone surgery on his hip yesterday, the Irishman may not be fit again by the time any possible suspension ends.

The FA charges follow the release of Keane's autobiography, in which he appeared to admit having deliberately embarked on a revenge tackle on Manchester City's Alf-Inge Haaland.

Both charges relate to the Haaland incident and Keane has 14 days in which to respond.

We knew this was coming, so lets get it over with, what I want to know is, when is the FA going to act against players who by there actions try to get players sent off, such as Ashley Cole and Gobshite McAteer, in fact if anyone can supply an e mail address for the FA I will tell them what I think.

Anyone know the maximum he can get.. One thing that's predictable now.. An outcry in the press demanding that he serve any ban after he returns from injury..

I heard someone saying that if they ban him they can postpone the until he is back fit...that sounds like rubbish to me...does anyone know if this is true ??

They will probably be looking for a four match ban for each offence.
They cannot delay the ban, it will take effect immediately once a decision has been made. But Keano will probably not accept this, because he has already served a ban for the sending off incident, which rules out the first ban. As for the second ban he may get away with this if he says the author of the book used his own personnel views.

The ghost writer Dunphy says that they are he's words, that he paraphrased Roy, but what he expressed is what Roy felt on the matter.
Whether Keano will back down and try use this as a way out will be interesting to see.

The scenario will probably play out something like this:

1) The FA will announce that Keene is to be banned but will stipulate that the ban will only be imposed when Keene returns to fitness.

2) The next day, Keene will make a remarkably quick recovery and United will pronounce Keene fit for duty.

3) The FA ban will take effect.

Sorted.
