Kanye West dreams of recording an album with Chris Martin - because he's convinced the British rocker and his Coldplay bandmates are "more talented than The Beatles". Martin lent his vocals to the rapper's 2008 track "Homecoming" and West was so impressed, he's now begging the "Yellow" hitmaker to join him in the studio again - because he believes a collaboration with Coldplay could make "one of the greatest albums ever".

West says, "America has, and probably always will, dominate music across the globe but it's always been the British who pull out that very special band. We have had amazing bands like Nirvana and Guns N' Roses but it's the British who have had the cream with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones setting the standard. I love Coldplay, and I honestly think they are on the same level as The Beatles."

"In 30 years, when Coldplay are old men, people will look back and say, 'These guys were more talented than The Beatles.' I have worked with Chris Martin and the man is a genius - as a performer and a songwriter he is on the same level as John Lennon. I am not saying this sort of s**t lightly, it's really how talented the guy is. And Coldplay can go down as the best ever - even bigger than The Beatles."

"I have worked with Chris before but I'd like to work with him and the rest of the group next time. I have worked with some greats in my career but I really want to get in the studio and make an album with Coldplay."

"Jay-Z and Linkin Park made a sick album, and on paper that shouldn't have worked but it did. I want to meet with Chris and talk seriously about doing that. With us all in the studio we could create one of the greatest albums ever."

 Just how much cocaine do we reckon old Kayne is taking then?

In other news, James Blunt is miles better than Neil Young

Its sad that the god that was John lennon is no longer here and yet noone has shot this idiot yet....

The thing is, he's probably right, Coldplay just need 40 years of people appreciating their music before they will get the recognition.

this is the small white text bit where I call you a numpty for believing that WUM.

Tbf those bands cannot be compared, at any level. The Beatles were good back then, groundbreaking, and they're still inspiring musicians today, etc. and Coldplay is a new, quite OK pop band, with some pretty good stuff and with some, daft, boring stuff. Same as Beatles, loads of their songs were crap, big deal, it happens.

ALMOST got me :)

obviously the beetles comparrison is retarded but i actually quite like coldplay and as a hiphop fan would like to see some kind of rap collaboration from them in the future

hopefully they'll get a better rapper than mr west to provide the lyrics though

Didn't he also say either Usher or Chris Brown could be the next MJ and that Beyonce would be one of the biggest things to ever happen to music.

The Beatles are overrated as shit, Coldplay are overrated as shit.

I pretty much see where Kanye is coming from.

Everything West does and says is done for effect, to exaggerate himself further in his self imposed delusion. Everybody knows making this comparison would only cause Chris Martin and Coldplay nothing but embarrassment. Ultimately it would cause people reflect on Coldplay and quickly draw the conclusion that they were rather dull and uninspiring.
Its like when your mum reminds you how handsome you are, you know its not really true and don't really appreciate the attention it brings as it makes you a little uncomfortable.

This - they were the first boy band to release modern pop songs, if they released some of their greatest hits for the first time this year they would be no more famous than anything else being currently released.

Are you telling me that if something like Yellow Submarine or I Want to Hold Your Hand was released today they would go straight to No.1 around the World sending millions of girls mental?

Surely you do know they're more than that?

I'm not saying they wouldn't be considered good or great, I'm saying they wouldn't be considered immortal above and beyond any artist this country has ever produced.

The only good thing the Beatles ever did was Thomas the Tank Engine...

They aren't considered that purely for the melodies they created though are they Brian? Their level of influence and (relative) innovation is why they're considered above merely great, something few bands, especially Coldplay, can match.

It's hugely facetious to claim they weren't all that compared to artists like Coldplay.

That is my point - you are saying they are considered great because they were first and were built upon, not because their music hasn't been surpassed. As such if their music was released today it wouldn't warrant unusually strong attention.

Well actually it would, considering what a dire fecking state popular music's in at the moment, but taking it out of the context is futile, as their huge popularity is all about the context.

Put Picasso in the Renaissance and he'd be laughed at and called rubbish. Doesn't make him not worthy of his praise though does it? Or putting Alexander the Great and his cavalry up against a Panzer assault. It's nonsense.

The Beatles did more for music with their experimentation then most bands ever have. Removing that part of their legacy to make a point about chord structure is disingenuous. For a start music is a hugely subjective medium anyway. I could argue Right Said Fred are better than Pink Floyd if I liked cos they'd have done better on X Factor.

If you don't like the Beatles, tough, their legacy is deserved and far in advance of the Coldplay's of this world.

I don't really like The Beatles.

Or Coldplay.

Me either, although I think that coldplau albums, in general, are very very well put together, flow nicely.

Beatles were obviously talented, I'm not questioning that, but I don't enjoy their music as much as other artists.

But I am sure someone will be along soon, calling me a sheep, with no clue of music,( because I'll listen to almost anything.) as these threads so often turn into.
