If what we're all expecting happens and Dave leaves, surely it's worth considering the serious contenders to take up the mantle. It's fair to say Real will have their ban suspended in which case Big D will do the obvious and follow his Mrs and Family to Madrid once Zidane comes a knocking. A straight swap plus some dosh would do as I rate Navas... but watching Schmeichel this season has got me thinking. Himself and Butland have been outstanding this season and IMO both worthy successors to De Gea (should be sadly leave). What are the thoughts on Schmeichel pt II?

Butland all day long before Kasper tbh. he's good but not top class, think butland could be.

Agreed on Butland, having quality English players in our line-up is getting harder and if Dave goes then Butland would potentially be our #1 for the next decade.

Would be a fairy-tale signing. But not a sensible one in my opinion. He hasn't got the "presence". He flopped at City and reminds me a bit of Bosnich.

Fully agree, Butland should be our first choice replacement if DDG goes. Lad is doing exceptionally well & will be taking a step up to a bigger club in the pretty near future imo.

I had a look at who Frans Hoek was following on twitter the other day - Butland, Fabianski and one other goalkeeper I forget amongst others.

Random thing to do, but noticed he was following some obscure united transfer news account.

He didn't 'flop' at City. He was young and played due to their other keepers being injured. He kept 4 clean sheets in 7 games. Still wouldn't want him though.

Flopped at City? He did well early in the 07/08 season keeping several clean sheets but he simply wasn't first choice with Isaksson and Joe Hart providing stiff competition. City didn't know who they wanted between the sticks because Hart took over Isaksson as undisputed first choice but the following season he made way for Shay Given and was loaned out.

Butland would be a more adequate replacement

Butland or Fraser Forster but I must just from a nostalgia point of view I'd love to see a Schmeichel in a United shirt again.

If we were to lose DDG and sell Johnstone, let's get both Butland and Kasper in. Romero doesn't really fill me with confidence.

I just had an alert about this on my phone. They really do just make up stories based on threads here don't they?

Custis, if you're reading this: feck off

Kasper would be a sentimental choice though - if Dave goes then it's Butland all day for me.

Stop sitting around making up stories Custis and go and get some exercise lardboy.

I don't rate Schmeichel at all. I'm actually very surprised he had a good 6 months.

He isnt top class. At a bigger club, he would have a career like Mignolet. Good but not upto the level.

I would prefer Butland and even that Jordan pickford seems good.

Valdes anyone...? Realistic options lead to Butland... just hope he doesn't do a Ben Foster and freeze under the headlights, which is always the risk you run with getting keepers.

Couldn't be more happy for the guy I guess. For both of them.

I think he's been really impressive this season. A commanding presence and good shot stopper too. Congrats Schmikes.

His distribution is also right up there with the best.

He's been very solid to say the least.. Wouldn't mind him here og big dave goes.. But big dave should stay and he should stay at Leicester..
