Espanyol coach Miguel Angel Lotina has admitted that Carlos Kameni is likely to leave for the Premiership in the summer.

The Cameroon international has been the subject of interest from several top European sides after some heroic performances in goal for Espanyol this season, and none more so than in the local derby against Barcelona at the Camp Nou, where he continually thwarted the home side's attacks.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was at that match and he also spoke to the goalkeeper when the pair attended the Tsunami charity game in Barcelona.

Manchester United have also followed Kameni closely and goalkeeping coach Tony Coton has been a regular in the stands of the Olympic Stadium.

"The idea of the club is that Carlos remains in the squad. He is a player who is growing and his value is increasing which means that if an offer came then we could not discard it automatically and for that reason the sports director is looking at players daily," Lotina told Catalan daily Sport.

"In England there are various teams that have problems with their goalkeepers and so it would not be strange if an offer is made for him.

"The match against Barcelona was shown around Europe and Kameni was sensational. If an offer arrives, a situation that has not yet happened, then we will have to consider it."

Kameni refutes exit talk

Manchester United target Carlos Kameni has denied that he will leave Espanyol at the end of the season, despite his coach appearing to give the green light for clubs to start bidding for his services.
The Cameroon international has a contract with the Catalan outfit until 2007, but his displays this season have earned him rave reviews and have seen Premiership clubs like United and Arsenal begin to monitor his progression.
Miguel Angel Lotina admitted that if the right offer came in then the Barcelona-based club would find it difficult to ignore, stating: "He is a player who is growing and his value is increasing which means that if an offer came then we could not discard it automatically and for that reason the sports director is looking at players daily.
"In England there are various teams that have problems with their goalkeepers and so it would not be strange if an offer is made for him."
However, Kameni is adamant that he has no desire to quit the club that has given him the chance to play top flight football, and he is keen to repay that confidence.
"I just want to stay here and continue playing with Espanyol," the 20-year-old said.
"Of course, nobody knows what could happen in two, three or four years time.
"It is equally possible that I will finish my career here. I will never forget the confidence the club has shown in me.
"Despite my age and inexperience they have taken shown great faith in me. There are so many people here that have shown me real humanity."
Such is the esteem that Espanyol hold Kameni in, they have decided to release Belgium international stopper Erwin Lemmens at the end of the current campaign.
"I do not want to talk about that really, because it is a dangerous topic," Kameni continued. "It is a decision made by the club and the only thing I can say is that Lemmens is a great goalkeeper and a really nice guy."

Man Utd No2 Queiroz denies interest in Espanyol keeper

Manchester United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz has denied they're interested in Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni.
The Cameroon international youngster has been scouted by United this season, but Queiroz said: "There's been talk about Kameni, but also of Casillas. They are two exceptional goalkeepers, but Manchester United always works in an honest way.

"If there was an interest, we first would speak to the club and begin negotiations."

Queiroz added: "At United, we always seek information on the good players we uncover, but this is not the case with Kameni."

Man Utd look to Serie A 'keepers

Manchester United believe they can solve their goalkeeping problems by snapping up an Italian, with Francesco Toldo and Morgan De Sanctis top of the list.

The Red Devils have struggled to find a reliable shot-stopper this season, as highlighted by Roy Carroll’s costly error in the Champions’ League defeat to Milan.

The Press on both sides of the English Channel now suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to Serie A to solve their worries.

Udinese star De Sanctis is hot property at the moment, as his form has contributed to the team’s battle for a Champions’ League place and he made his international debut during the 0-0 friendly with Iceland midweek.

The 28-year-old started his career at Juventus and this is his sixth campaign at the Stadio Friuli, but Udinese are prepared to sell at the right price.

Another option for Manchester United would be Francesco Toldo, especially as few expect him to stay on at Inter past the summer.

Already dropped in favour of Alberto Fontana and Fabian Carini on a number of occasions this season, patron Massimo Moratti also confirmed that “if we don’t win the Champions’ League then it’s time to bring in some young faces for the goalkeeping gloves.”

Former Fiorentina man Toldo has already been heavily linked with a move abroad, as Arsenal and Barcelona had shown an interest.

Shit, this guy was a proper FM legend back in the day. Can't believe that day was 6 years ago!

I'll always remember Jimmy Magee's commentary on Kameni in the World Cup last summer:
"In '66 England had Banks, but this fella, this fella is something special!"

Good keeper, questionable whether he's good enough for a top 4 side but I was hoping Valencia would go for him as Moya never looked good enough to take over from Cesar.

They went with Diego Alvez from Almeria instead, someone who has high stock in Spain although I've never seen anything to suggest he's a top keeper. I hope they made the right choice.

Either way I'm sure he'd be a very good signing for Fulham
