If the old lady is dead serious about getting Rio Ferdinand, Leeds would rather sell him to them rather than us.

Which wouldn't leave us with many options as Nesta is supposedly on his way to Inter.

Don't think the old Lady's purse is as deep as ours. PLC's don't give a shit when it comes to bucks! If Ridsdale thinks he can take them on as well he's the next casualty. Jack Walker's old position he aint got!

Still prefer Ayala.

Juve chases Cannavaro as well.Still finds it strange that Rio would cost more than Nesta. What about Edmilson??

Realistically, just like we'd prefer to sign Ferdinand (meaning, British) if we spend big money, Juve would prefer to sign Nesta or Cannavaro (meaning, Italian) if they spend big money. On defenders at least.

I agree. He is cheaper option than Rio and will give the back line a better balance. Rio is too much like Brown and O'Shea. We need a hardman like Ayala to play alongside one of the other two. This approach worked very well with Stam and Johnsen. Ayala would cost less than half of what Leeds would want for Rio. We can spend the extra cash on a fourth striker (after Yorke gets sold) and possibly a fullback.

To me, one of the two outstanding defenders of the WC - him and Marquez of Mexico.

Though I can't see Sir Alex being interested in Brazilian defenders.

1. Nesta will not get Nesta. They can't afford him and their offers have been to low. Fro Juve it is the same case. Lazio want 35 m for Nesta and those are unwilling to spend that much on a defender.
2. We won't get Rio. Juve have a better chance of doing that.
3. Why waste 35 m pounds on Rio when we can get Nesta at less from Lazio?
Remebr the owe us 9m for Stam.
Surely if we offered 26m plus wirring of that 9m they would not be able to resist.
4. Juve said Cananvaro was to exensive too.
5. Hence judge for thyself who we wil get.

Sensational stuff kemo. Ever thought of journalism? You seem to have the choice between that and football management as career paths.

Or playwriting perhaps?

2. What makes you think Juve would prefer a 30m englishman rather than a 30m Italian?
3. It won't be cheaper really - just less costly short term. We're still supposed to get those 9m one way or the other.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, Lazio and Man Utd will hold talks over the future of Argentine players. The English top club wants Juan Pablo Sorin at any cost and Lazio could take advantage of Ferguson's great will to bring the left wing defender/midfielder to Manchester.

According to sources close to Lazio, Cragnotti could give Sorin to Man Utd but also "force" them to take Claudio Lopez in exchange of the money that Lazio still owe Man Utd for the transfer of Jaap Stam, but also in exchange of Juan Sebastian Veron, who after last season and the World Cup has a much lower value than when Lazio sold him to Man Utd.

A deal that could please both clubs as Man Utd see in Sorin the perfect left wing, and could take Claudio Lopez too as they don't have many attackers in the team. Meanwhile Lazio would get back the hero Veron and wouldn't owe Man Utd any more money.

Pasted from a Lazio website seems like a good deal for me.We get a attacker and defender for Veron.Maybe Lazio gets the advantage of it but it cleares the way to buy Ronaldinho but this is just a tabloid rumour as usual.

Peter Ridsdale:``Rio Ferdinand is contracted to Leeds.I have no intention of selling him.He has a clause in his contract that says he can`t go to another Premiership club.

We`ve had no offers for him and if I`ve got anything to do with it he`ll see out his contract.I`m not stupid enough to say never is never but we`ve told Rio we do not want to sell him``

'We`ve had no offers for him '

Didn't Kenyon say that we had approached Leeds before the WC and were rebuffed?

Trustworthy character our Ridsdale. Sounds like a lot of people just before they're gone!
