Alright, so my brother just bought a 360..we don't have an HD tv as of yet, but intending on getting one..already hooked it upto the LIve..

only game I have so far is Burnout Paradise ....but obviously going to get more..

I know there's millions of XBOX threads on here,, but is there any thread which basically sums up what a new user should know/games to get/ about Live?

Aren't there like world servers for games. or do I have to know users personally to play against them? etc etc...totally confused and new here..lol
I apologise if there are other threads for a new user.

Get XBoxLive, wait for FIFA 2009, I liked COD 4 online, but I dont know how busy it is these days dont play it anymore. GTA 4 if you like the series, not the best of them, but quite entertaining, there are a lot more games that are good but those are the only ones I really ever played this year

Fifa overtaken PES in 2008, major problems with online play for PES has meant the game is only any good if you want to play single player.

Fifa 2008 has a 5 v 5 option, Fifa 2009 has a 10 v 10 human player facility which is going to be interesting but I presume PES has had to work twice as hard this time around to catch up.

Did this review when both games had just come out -

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 v Fifa 08

First off, Pro Evo 2008. The case looks as good as ever, the disk and opening sequence build the exitement, and then the gameplay.. Well.. never have I regretted spending £40 so fast. The frame rate it awful, the longest passage of smooth play is a few seconds and then it stops to work out why it was working. Die hard Pro Evo fans will tell you 'turn off some features, it runs fine!'. These few features to my experimentation are no commentary, no SFX, no BGM, no stadium effects.. o and actually installing the game on your hard drive.. And guess what? There is still a noticable delay. Also, to anyone who hasnt noticed, you can score pretty much every single time by cutting in on the edge of the box and letting the ball hit their toblerone handed keeper and pop out to you forwards.. realistic eh? So.. is the gameplay still worth this effort? In short, no. Although most will still try to argue that despite these set backs, Pro Evo is still the best game. It is obvious these have never given Fifa 08 a chance.

Straight off, Fifa 08 is the most enjoyable football game i have played since Pro Evo 4, and before that Sensible Soccer (by the way, download that now from Xbox live if you can) on the megadrive. The graphics are superb, no skipping and the loading times are non existent, well there are some - but you can actually play in the loading arena while you wait. The better commentary is more varied, and without Mark Lawrenson! BGM soundtrack is awesome and as for the previously less superior gameplay? Its actually just as good, if not better (no lag too). The ability to score screamers is actually there, but there is no sure fire way to score. This game is so enjoyable, and finally Fifa has actually shown itself as a world class football game in gameplay as well as graphics. And it has a lifespan. EA are looking into patches for the game which will update team rosters after the next few transfer windows.

Long story short?

Pro Evolution 2008 4 - 9 Fifa 08

New Game Scores, 1 word sum up and buy or not to buy..

Pro Evolution 2008 - 4/10 - samey - get fifa instead.

Fifa 08- 9/10 - suprising - definite buy, even if you have no friends and will only be playing the single player version

Hmmm..interesting, if that really is the case, I'll be considering getting FIFA itself..

You need to sell it and buy a PS3. ;)

Lol. knew that would be coming.....

it's definitely the case that fifa far outstripped pes last year. thing is they both have new variants coming out real soon now so you may as well wait and see how they shape up.

oh and a few games worth considering.

Gears of War
Vegas 1/2
Condemned 1/2
Crackdown
GTA4
Mass Effect
COD4
Half Life Orange Box
Lost Odyssey (if JRPG fan)
Bioshock
Kameo (cartoony platformer but good)
Oblivion
Lego Star Wars/Lego indian Jones

a lot of those are going for cheap at the moment so you could pick up quite a few.

Dead Rising is another great game that will be cheap now, and very different to anything else that's been released.

What do you need to know? Make sure you know the phone number for Micro$oft. You will need to know that.

COD 4 is a definite. Bioshock is also probably cheap now, and most people seem to count that as an "Xbox must have". Fifa 08, but its probably worth waiting for FIFA 09 (release date October 3rd), or even Pes2009, but I would wait to see what the reviews are like for it before buying it. Possibly rent it first. Orange box is very good, (speak to Spoonov). Gears of War, probably can get that for cheap now. Wouldn't bother with Halo 3 unless you were a massive fan of the previous two games.

:p

The main thing you need to know is the "TOWEL TRICK". Seriously though you MUST buy Halo 3. MUST MUST MUST. Halo 3 + Live = ENDLESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FUN.

Orange Box is a must. I've bought COD4, Mass Effect, Bioshock, The Orange Box and Halo 3, recently, for less than £15 each. I've enjoyed them all, bar Mass Effect, which I haven't played, yet. Halo 3 and COD didn't have the best campaigns, but nevertheless they were good fun. I'd say my favourites are BioShock and The Orange Box. You can't go wrong with TOB; HL2, Ep1, Ep 2 and Portal are all fantastic games. As for Bioshock, I love the art deco setting(and music). Great game, very atmospheric.

Oh and GTA4's a good game, despite criticisms.

Oh and I wouldnt ask for 360 advice on this forum, its basically the unofficial Sony forums.

Sorry Elvis, i meant to write "not really true". Since i've got back from holiday my ISP has slowed my internet down to a near unusable speed. Makes typing anything online, a challenge.

There are many games that are appalling online. Also as software makers try to appeal to many who want in-depth online gaming, the quality of the single player mode suffers.

This is very true, online aspects should compliment the single player, not vice versa.
