. . . for Fergie who orchestrated a magnificent result despite fielding a relatively young, albeit enthusiastic team today. (Any of you raincoats know what the average age was today and how it ranks to previous teams / seasons etc?)
For all all of you "he's lost the plot" skeptics how do you feel now? Half the team missing due to injury or suspension for most of the season is not an easy obstacle to overcome. And don't get me wrong there's still a lot of work to do but to be where we are in the PL and how we're doing in the CL I'd say it's not to bad, you?
As for today's game, it must be taken in context. What we witnessed today is simply one more step in an accelerated building process that is paying dividends that can only be described technically as "feckin' marvellous" It surely puts the widest smiles on all our faces we've seen in quite some time. (Well not that long if we compare ourselves to City but that's another story )
At the risk of repeating myself I must say the young defenders on the squad are poised to form the basis of a potentially unbeatable team. Wes Brown & John O'Shea are young magicians who only starting to "roll up their sleeves" and "Oh Mikkey you're so fine" has been a favourite of mine for a long time now (for you young 'uns, check old posts if you don't believe me) to see him do so well in the middle (as he has always said he wanted to) brings tears to me eyes! (I love being right ) I know Gazza is a little older and deservedly gets a little flak once & a while for his miscues but he did play a blinder today didn't he?
And what about that midfield . . . Scholes the "Little General", with all his old "pals" gone, nowhere to be seen, just him and Giggs (who was a bit quiet today eh?) and David oops I mean Ole Soljaer. I still think Quint is out of his depth but he rose to the occasion today.
Diego "don't cry for me" Forlan is starting to show us exactly why the gaffer had so much faith. There are things that happen on the practice pitch we just don't see . . . yes Mr. "Give me that Jesey" Dudek dropped the ball but someone had the presence of mind to be there to tap it in!
In time, Keano will come in for Fortune . . . Becks will give Scholes a well deserved rest, Seba will see duty in Europe, Ferdinand will rotate into the back two as will Blanc on special assignment and the gooners will join the scousers in never - never land.
Bring on Arsehole Wegner and his boys . . . they won't be easy . . . but neither will we!
