Brazilian midfielder Juninho is to return to Middlesbrough in a £6m transfer from Atletico Madrid.
He will join the Teessiders for the third time in his career on 5 August, subject to passing a medical and being granted a work permit.
Boro have been chasing Juninho, 29, since the end of the World Cup last month but had initially been unable to agree personal terms.
A statement from the club confirmed the signing of Juninho.
"Middlesbrough Football Club are delighted to announce they agreed personal terms with Juninho having already agreed a fee with Atletico Madrid.
"The club has agreed a four-year contract, subject to the player passing a medical and obtaining a work permit from the Department of Employment.
"The Brazilian international is due to link up with his new team-mates week commencing 5 August and it is hoped that he will make his debut in the pre-season friendly against Alaves on 7 August ."
Juninho made a major impact at the north-east club after arriving in a £4.75m move from Sao Paolo in November 1995.
The Smoggies do seem able to attract top names...Gibson must have deep pockets.
