Firstly, sorry if there is a thread on this guy but I couldn't find it so please delete if so.

I watched him play for the first time yesterday in the Valencia vs. Basle game and this boy was absolutely class. Has pace, stamina, skills, a sweet shot... the whole package. Seems to be able to play LB and LW and is only 21. Could he be the replacement for Evra that we need? And knowing that he's at Valencia is comforting as they are not extortionists like Bayern or Spurs.

Can anyone who has seen him regularly expand on this? Is he as good as he was against Basle on a consistent basis? Is he injury prone? Would be interesting to know.

Yes, he's a very good attacking fullback. He also has determination which sees him compete for the ball quite well despite being so small. Defensively he's not completely 100% solid yet, there can still be some improvement there, but he's still decent defensively and with his attitude he wont let you down too much and will improve.

Offensively he's good enough to make it as a left winger, but he and Valencia wanted to make another Jordi Alba (who wouldnt have made it as a winger at Valencia) and he offers a ridiculous amount of energy bombing up and down the left side. He's a very good dribbler and I've seen him make some creative passes to break through a defence earlier in his career before he was playing left back and he's pretty good crossing for a left back. All in all he could absolutely be similar to a new Evra, without the huge leap and surprising ability in the air. Thats one area that Bernat might be susceptible, but thats the case with most smaller and younger fullbacks

Is he one of those "I always dream to play for Barca or Madrid' kind of guys? Or is there possibility he can come and take our LB spot as DDG has done with GK?

Haven't seen enough of him, could he be better than Alberto Moreno?

Much better ones

Has been this season yes

I do hope so. Have not seen that much of him, but im not among those who think Kroos and Vidal is realistic. Based on my impression, Parejo is top three among the realistic alternatives in La Liga (Ander, Rakitic and Parejo).

We already have a Spanish outfield player. I don't think there's room for another Juan.

In terms of who might be available maybe. He hasnt been as good in the 2nd half of the season after being Valencia's best player in the first half of the season.

Personally I dont like him as much because he plays it safe more than anything. A lot of times something more progressive is on, but he'll turn away or play a safe pass instead. But he's a good all rounder, passing the ball around and will help win it, got a couple of goals this season too.

I'd have him as about 12th best CM in la liga after all Barcelona and Atletico CMs, Modric, Alonso and also Bruno Soriano at Villarreal.

But when you talk about who would be a realistic option, a 29 year old and Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico players are off the table. Rakitic would be miles better and plenty of players from other leagues I think. But he'd definitely be an improvement and is good enough as a squad option for the likes of City or Chelsea.

I just think he'd be a bit underwhelming compared to who else is out there and who our rivals have in cm. I feel that he'd be a backup for most of them rather than as good as their cms

I think I'm going to watch Valencia vs Atletico Madrid. Should be a good one to watch him. Though Atletico probably rest some of their key players.

Unfortunately a weakened Atletico should still be able to roll Valencia. That Europa comeback was about their only impressive performance this season

Apparently he's not playing. Probably injured against Sevilla last game.

He reminds me of a young Juan Mata although they have differences - he can play left back as well and isn't as good as Mata offensively but he's quicker and a better dribbler. They have the same body structure though and he can also play in the same position Mata used to for Valencia from the left.

He's really a winger, from the couple of games I've seen. Wouldn't have the defensive stuff to be a FB in the Premier League.

He likes to tackle and is very determined. Dont underestimate him because hes small, he's tough too. He's not completely solid defensively though, sometimes attackers get a few too many crosses in for my liking, but I think his character will see him be a better defender than Alba whilst also having more going forward

Definitely a better defender than Alba. He has a pair of balls, for a start. I think that he's definitely tough & tenacious enough to be a PL left-back - if Baines is considered good defensively (I don't think he is), then he would surely be fine here. However, I think he's wasted there. He really looks like a forward to me. Great set pieces, too.

I've only watched him 6 or 7 times this season admittedly, I may not be the best to comment, but he looks quality.

I'd have him. Looks like another great prospect coming through the Mestalla production line (Villa, Silva, Mata, Alba, Albiol..........).

I would like Feghouli as well, but that's another thread.

I agree i think his best position is on the left as a winger or a wide forward. He was sensational against Real Madrid. Made Arbeloa look so bad he had to be substituted. I believe he did start that game as a left back but played almost as a winger (or a complete wing back as they say in football manager) beating defenders time and again. He maybe small but he's fiesty. I think he'd do well in the PL too.

Very true. I don't mean he's wasted at left-back in that he won't perform well, but it's just that even when playing at LB, he goes forward all the time. He does leave gaps behind him (like any good attacking full-back) and I feel that he's clearly a winger by nature. Playing him at the back restricts his influence when the side has the ball, & while he always tries his best and is very tenacious, doesn't come across to me as a true defender. He is like a less extreme version of Gareth Bale (not in style of play or quality, but in situation). I'm sure if he came to the Premier League, he would be very good.

maybe then Alaba moves to midfield, with Rode already at the club and Lahm transformed to a DM they hopefully don't go after Vidal, hopefully. I still think the way Bayern is doing on the transfer market in recent years they will spend big again and it could well be Vidal.

I don't know if he is just a backup for Alaba/upgrade on Contento or if Pep has some special plans for Alaba in CM? The second point would be great for us, because it would increase our chances to get a midfielder, because Bayern don't need to sign another one ;)
But anyway for 10m a good signing, lets see how he will perform in the Bundesliga.

Well that's out of the blue. There were plenty of rumours that he would go somewhere, but Bayern? I hadn't guessed that.

I think they've got a good buy.

Some users at Transfermarkt.de were saying that for some weeks. So for us it is not out of the blue.

Yeah, good buy, i think he is the replacement for Diego Contento in the first place, who was Alaba's only backup.

It's more there were so many names flying around as possibles, that I hadn't realised Bayern were frontrunners. I'm surprised he wants to go anywhere as a backup really. But then I was still imagining that in the end Valencia would sort out a nice new deal for him. Ah well.

This may be how he's used. From a guy I follow. One of the best analysts I've seen

Never impressed me but he's young. He's not much of a fullback, just like every fullback these days.

Good signing for them. Can cover a few positions, and means they can move Alaba about as well.

Bayern was looking for a new left fullback to give Alaba some competition. He was one of the few players who basically had to fear no competition at all with Contento just not being good enough to put some pressure on the Austrian youngster.

He'll barely play. He's just an improvement on the one work spot in the squad - the reserve left back.

€10 million for Bernat is a very good deal, Bayern as always very smart in the transfer window.

Now we just need one more quality CB and the squad looks pretty much done, even with Kroos leaving. Too much competition in midfield would hurt more than it would do good.
