Journal For Plague Lovers - Manic Street Preachers

this whole album is from poems written by the guitarist,

i havent bought this yet, but will do so soon

I absolutely love this album. Some of the lyrics are unbelievable; witty, insightful, dark and moving. And I think working with Albini has given it a raw and authentic quality. It perhaps lacks immediacy for casual listeners, but that was always going to happen when using Richie's meandering lyrics; it gets better with every listen.

Some of my favourite tracks:

Bag Lady

Me and Stephen Hawking

Pretension / Repulsion

They lost a guitarist long ago but not a lead singer.

To be fair he couldn't really play the guitar, he just strummed a bit on stage. He was the lyricist. And my favourite lyricist of all time.

This is good, but I hope I'm not in the mood for Manics come 10pm tonight. If the worst happens, I might allow myself a little This Joke Sport Severed in a lonely room.
