Jonny Wilkinson has retired from international rugby

What a player on his day and undoubtedly not just England one of rugby's greatest ever players.

Not really.

Of course he is. He's a bit like Bobby Moore, in a sense. Good player, but hugely overrated because he won the World Cup as the star man. Take away that final and he wouldn't get half the credit he does.

Wilkinson was a one trick pony.

Yeah, I remember when three quarters of England suddenly pretended to be interested in rugby union because they won something, even though Wilkinson was the only player they could actually name.

And by now most of them won't remember who he is anyway.

He isn't overrated, is he on the level on Dan Carter no but still around 01 to 03 Wilko was world class up there with the best. I knew the usual anti England fans would come up with comments like this.

Great International, nearly won the World Cup by himself.

But he he did win a World Cup though. Taking away somebodys biggest achievement in order to judge them seems pretty stupid. A World Cup win is obviously going to make your career look better, its what everyone aspires too

You don't know anything about egg-ball either? Good kicker, good defensively - mediocre attacking fly half.

"overrated" ?

So reel off the legions of better flyhalfs and centre backs then

Larkham and Carter to name two very recent flyhalfs. He was always a limited player who gained his spot over other flyhalfs because his kicking game was exceptional. Without him England would have had next to no shot at the rugby world cup in 03. He scored 62 out of 72 points for England off the boot in the knockout rounds. I thought England in 07 was a far more complete side then England 03. They had the benefit of facing 'for me', a very weak Australian side and in transition. In the space of 3 years, the Wallabies lost Burke, Eels, Horan, Herbert and Tune either to retirement, loss of form or injury. When you lose players like that and replace them with the likes of Tiquiri, Sailor and Rogers, you've got issues.
