The 18yo CB played a great game for N. Ireland against Denmark, playing left back.

He made one mistake at the end, the dane pushed the ball past him to go through on goal and Evans had to take him down, right on the edge of the box.

But otherwise he was excellent; his tackling, awareness. And physically he's got no worries, he's about 6'2" I'd guess and has a good balance of strength vs. agility. He didn't look at all nervous, got stuck in, and played some nice balls.

I'd put him ahead of Pique in the shortlist of youngsters to make it, more mobile than Pique and looks to have the perfect temperment.

He's got to be ahead of Pique at the moment after getting two important international game under his belt successfully.

According to reports on the caf he's been outstanding - especially against Spain when he completly out-bossed Torres. To do that is a massive indication of Evans ability.

the future's bright!

Definately in terms of defenders; Evans, Pique, Bardsley, Eckersley.

Not sure about midfield and attack.

Rossi has something, but he plays a similar position to Rooney.
Maybe Campbell will come through.

Fletcher stood out at youth and reserve level, but it's a big step up to premiership level.

Anyway Evans looks a different class, I'd be suprised if he wasn't a starter in another 2-3 years.

I watched the 2nd half and its very clear that the best Irish fullback at United is not that fool Oshea. The comparison between their performances on saturday was very funny!

Evans played another international tonight, a 1-nil against Latvia, didn't see this one but he was rated N. Ireland's best player on Sky, an 8.7.

Evans was outstanding again. He nutmegged a few and did a couple of Cruyff turns. Very composed on the ball. Think John OShea in his debut season

Roy Keane is after Jonny Evans for Sunderland..................

Maybe a loan deal there will bring him on further?

that would be a very good idea if that could happen.

maybe danny simposon moving elsewhere maybe a good idea but don't know how well he has been doing at antwerp sp maybe he may stay for the remainder of the season.

What's Evans' pace like - its hard to judge from seeing him play as a CB. If he's got good pace on him, he could be a great option to have as a rightback, which is a position which may well be up for grabs in a couple of seasons.

Norn Iron fans are spouting off about him being a future world beater LB, despite having played there 3 times in his career (3 Caps for N.I.), so that shows just how intelligent a footballer he seems to be

this is fantastic to hear...but then his presence stuck out like a sore thumb the first few times i saw him play for the academy....

Excellent idea i never thought about that.

He has decent pace, he couldn't play LB if he was slow, but on one occassion against Denmark the winger was clearly quicker however Evans stayed close enough to force him wide. But most of the time he was very tight.

Defensively he could play RB, but true fullbacks need to offer something going forward, if not explosive pace then a good cross.
But since he's only played 3 games ever as a fullback, it's hard to say, he would no doubt get better in than position, and he's already done very good.

Let's hope Evans isn't a one season wonder.

Evans rues missed Reds chance
Promising centre-back hopes to become first-choice

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has admitted he missed his chance to establish himself in the club's starting line-up.

United went though a mid-season injury crisis during the last campaign, with the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic out sidelined for lengthy periods.

The problems meant there was an opportunity for Evans to force himself into the reckoning, however the Northern Ireland international experienced fitness problems of his own.

And the 22-year-old told The Sun that he felt like his chance to become a first team regular had passed.

He said: "It was so frustrating because I picked up a few niggly injuries.

"It was annoying that with players like Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic out injured as well, there were chances to get in and get a few games under your belt."

Evans recently signed a new four-year deal at Old Trafford, meaning he still has plenty of time to develop into a household name at the Premier League giants.

The defender now hopes to put his injury problems behind him and become Sir Alex Ferguson's first-choice centre-back.

He added: "There were windows of opportunities I couldn't take because I was sidelined.

"By the end of it (the contract), I'd like to be the one of the first names on the team sheet."

Could happen alot sooner than that . Best of luck to him. Could be a future United captain imo

Nice article, but really I think it's no longer fair to be discussing Jonny in the youth forum. He's a fully fledged and important senior squad member now, after all. (Have to admit, I can see the logic of posting it here though where there is a much smaller proportion of Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime)

Looks shit again tonight giving stupid foul after foul away.

Being outshone by Smalling.

Come on lad, pull your socks up!

Don't think he can still justifiably be in the reserve forum.
