He's not as effective when playing on the wing. He needs to be in the centre

Butt is twice the player Carrick will ever be.

The kid has talent without question, but thus far in his career he has been pure eye candy. Productivity wins matches. When/if he adds that to his game then he'd be a worthy consideration, right now he is just a poor mans Denilson.

how about his dribble into the box for the penalty at arsenal? thats the kind of attacking contibution we could use at united. No one at united has dribbled passed a man in a long time, we are looking incredibly flat in that area.
I would happly pay 20 mill for him today.
Unfortunately i have heard he is a west ham fan and has vowed never to leave the club!

Didn't Rio say he was happy at West Ham just before he signed for Leeds.
West Ham are never going to qualify for Europe unless they win the Worthless Cup. Cole's got ambition, he wants to play at the top level and it won't be long before a big club makes an approach for him. Unfortunately I think you're going to be looking at £20million+ for him.
If we could get Ronaldinhio for less than £20million we should buy him. He would give us more options. An attacking midfielder who is comfortable playing upfront and he is probably a better goal scorer than Joe.

Not exactly a regular occurence though is it? On that basis Phil Neville could do the same job based on his excellent run against Wrexham in the FA Cup...
The day he starts producing week in week out then I'd snap him up. If he was dirt cheap I'd snap him up on the chance that he would develop. Point is he will already cost a bomb so lets see him perform first.

My belief is that Joe Cole has what it takes to do the business week in week out but first needs to be brought along at a bigger club. I remember how roy keane was brought along at united playing as a defender first. but more than that, i think joe would fit into our team easily, west ham are a decent passing team who recently played arsenal off the park for about 70 minutes. the point is if we buy him now at 20m we could easily get 7-10 years out of him - thats what i call value for money.
This may sound crazy but i would do a straight swap with WHU; veron for cole.....?

Roy Keane as a defender at United? Didn't happen mate. The double season saw the famous four virtually ever present. Sure you are not thinking of Ince who spent much of his first year at right back?
Regarding your Cole point: that is exactly what everyone was saying about Veron.
United have never done well with creative central midfielders, be it Veron, Muhren or Wilkins. They always end up stuck out on the flank being half as effective as a decent winger... that is what we need, not another nancy boy.

unless i am really losing my marbles i am sure i saw keane playing in a variety of positions early on in his days with united, this included right back, center back, right wing and even as a forward once.
I do agree though that a speedy right winger would be very usefull to us - think its time we gave beckham his chance to pay in the middle so we can see what he can do...

I am also sure that I saw Roy Keane played as RB and forward in his early days in United.

I agree - Beckham-Keane, or even Butt-Beckham is the way to go in the middle. And please replace Giggs while you're at it.
Mmmm... anyone else looking at Duff and Dyer here?

i would never dream of selling giggs, he is a club legend and it still takes two players to mark him out of games, the reason they can afford to double up on him is because there is no other threat in his mould on the field.
