Never seen him play but he is a fairly small play (1.70 m) who is very quick - and has already played 20 league matches. 15 for Sparta Rotterdam and 5 for PSV
I thought he was one of two Dutch players at the U17 Euros earlier this year who looked like they could become a player, though admittedly I only watched the Dutch a couple of times so maybe he just happened to have good games. Nevertheless I have him filed under 'players to keep an eye on'.
For what it's worth the other player I thought looked good was former Feyenoord now Man City defender Karim Rekik.

I like what I've seen of him for PSV but dont think he's been particularly good today. Plus the fact he's playing for Holland now will probably quadruple his value

I feel like I watched a different match. Thought we was pretty good. Quick, actually overlapped and gave Affelay an option, and Denmark did nothing down his flank. How is that wank?

you were watching a different match mate, Denmark and Rommedahl in particular got in behind him so often that Seedorf was forced to defend him from Redknapp's criticism at half time.
He is young, but i was far from impressed with his defending. We already have one LB who can't defend, don't really see the point of buying another.
Tbf to Willems, the RB for Holland was no better really. The conclusion to draw from that game is what we all probably expected really, Holland are great going forward, but their defence is piss poor in comparison.
He seems a bit too heavy set to play LB, looked a bit clumsy and sluggish off the mark, maybe when he grows into the bulk a bit more he'll look more effective.

When Evra was his age he was playing as a striker for Marsala! This bloke is playing in the European championships for Holland, the criticism just seems a little harsh.

It was only one game but there was plenty of weakness shown. Hopefully he improves for the other matches because on the ball he did well
Agreed, this is what i can't understand really. People go on all the time about our youngsters and how we are 'all set' for the future, then in the same breath they want us to go and sign other youngsters to replace Evra when we have already long been nurturing Fabio for that role! bizarre logic imo.
Willems showed nothing particularly impressive for me, if Fabio played as poorly as that defensively we would be slagging him off as not good enough. We have touted the Da Silva's as our long term full back options, let's give them a chance then, before coveting others, who have done a lot less!
Looking at what's been on show so far defensively in the first few games, both Rafael and Fabio look far better options than all of the full backs, bar Lahm!
