hope we can get him to replace MC king aka louis saha

as he has improved leaps and bounds.

come on united!

Spurs would want too much for him. Plus if we do sign a striker, it needs to be someone capable of playing as the sole forward, whereas Defoe is like Rooney and Smith in that he plays behind the striker.

Midfield is where we need to spend whatever money we have.

We dont need strikers. If we sell saha,it would be for a cheaper price which wont justify the amount we paid for him.So lets concentrate on defense and midfield.

He's recently signed a four and a half year deal at Tottenham

Youre having a laugh... They paid 7 mil for him and he's only got better since then. Hes thrived under Jol where he gets more freedom to pull onto the wing and play the killer pass to Kanoute or Robbie Keane, and IMO he's played some of his best stuff this season

We paid 30m for Rio and he has improved drastically, yet people are only touting 20-25m as what we will get if we sold.

We should have gone for Defoe a year ago when he was looking to leave West Ham. We've missed the boat badly on this one. He's an international striker now. Your talking £15m+ when you take into account his age as well

I defended him on this board and wanted us to sign him but all the "pundits" and true "football fans" labeled him shit and definitely not Man Utd Quality.

Good little player.
But, as was said he needs a centre forward to play behind, a position that Rooney has made his own.
Also we have an excellent young player almost ready to step up from the reserves, Rossi, who also plays that position.

There is no chance of Defoe going to Utd. Will someone lock this thread?

How about some current United youth prospects like Johnson, Cooper, Ebanks-Blake, etc....Which are Ruud-style striker and who is most likely to make the grade with United?

I know Cooper is a tall striker but I doubt he'll make the grade with United.

I think Cooper is the only one similar to Ruud but he will never make it.

I read when we signed saha that SAF didnt want defoe because of his dismissal record. but that could be just the tabloids talking.

Didn't stop him signing Smith or Rooney, so, yeah, probably just tabloid bollocks.

Honestly dont think a striker is a priority. :nono: QUOTE]

Bollocks. How on earth can you say that?? Last season's goals scored tally was the absolute pits and the fact that we simply couldn't score left us drawing a lot of games that 2 or 3 seasons ago we would have won by at least 2 goals. God knows how many Premiership points it cost us, and hey, let's not mention the cup final, shall we?

What do y'all think of Eddie Johnson who we sent on loan at coventry? Is he any Good?

I said at the time that we should have signed him. As he would have given us something different in our strike force (at the time)

Exactly...we dont need him...if we sell Saha..it would have to be an Out and Out striker in the Ruud mould....

Said he was happy to play in USA during his first press conference in Canada...

No surprise. He could have easily had another couple years in the Premier League so I expect him to bang them in over in that pub league.

Especially at Toronto. For the MLS they look absolutely stacked. Orr/Caldwell are championship level defenders. Michael Bradley will dominate in midfield, as will Julio Cesar in goal. Could see Defoe scoring 30+.
