Can't see this suggestion being popular, but I think Rodriguez could be a shrewd cheeky buy for us
He missed last season through injury, but was banging them in for Southampton the previous season, and was just starting to break into the England squad. A lot of people want a galactico striker, but this guy would be useful to have upfront. He's looked very good in preseason, and could be eased back properly with us. Southampton's attack looks very good at the moment with Pelle, Rodriguez, and Mane. Have a feeling Rodriguez is gonna have really good season. Hope he shakes that injury off completely.

Let's see how he gets on first from his injury, look at what happens to the last played we signed who had an ACL injury

He fits the pre-requisite of already having had a cruciate ligament injury.

(Let's see how he plays again this season though.)

Good player but really don't think he's good enough. He's better on the ball than Hernandez but isn't as good infront of goal. He isn't particularly quick or anything like that. Top 10 player but not the quality we should be looking for.

Definitely need to see how he gets on after being out for over a season. I hope he comes back and is the player he once was but a lot of players are never quite the same.

If he proves himself again though plus does it in Europe then yes absolutely he could be a good signing.

I'm not sure if the ACL itself is why Falcao struggled last season. And I'm still not convinced he's finished yet. Could find form with Chelsea this season, and if he does he could be more devastating than Costa.

I think he's in a better Southampton team now than he was in the 2013/14 season, and it will be interesting to see just how good he really is this season. Such a shame for the guy having that injury, because he was looking like he was going to make the world cup squad.

"could" "if he does" and "could" again.

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

Could be an alternative to Pedro as that wide forward type player in a three
But I imagine they would cost a similar amount and there is the risk that his good season was a one off or that his injury may have some lasting impact so I'd be vary wary until he has had some time at Southampton and started banging in goals again

Yeh he may have done. He wouldn't have played though I don't think and now with Kane turning into the player he is it looks like he may not get the chance to ever really impose himself on the England setup.

We should be looking at buying players well above the level of Rodriguez. Even Liverpool haven't bought him.

Not remotely good enough for a club chasing the title.

When you say "not remotely good enough" you've obviously got a Lewandowsk type player in mind (would love him to come), but with VGs 433 set up, we'll mostly be laying with one striker. Chelsea have Remy, City have Bony. Top teams need decent back ups without them being galacticos.

Another very good young English striker, hope he kicks on after recovering from injury.

The famous Aunty scenario refers to the past and deals in absolutes, whereas the Falcao scenario refers to the future and deals in maybes.

Say my aunt's thinking of becoming trans. What then? If she gets balls attached she could be my uncle... :smirk:

Mane will probably be next Saints player to make a jump up, but I don't think he's good enough for what we require either.

Mané is Mirallas-level, will do good for a club that usually ends up between 6th-10th but not good enough for top 4.

Yeah, but I could definitely see him being an option for Spurs or Liverpool. He's apparently been playing slightly more central in pre-season and had a few goals so he'll be interesting to watch.

Mirallas has probably dropped out of Mirallas level too, btw. It's more like Bolasie and Montero level now. :p

Mané would be an upgrade on Chadli for sure though. Mané at least has some kind of footballing brain and a bit of goals in him but Chadli is just utter shit though.

Don't think Mane is the sort of player to make the step up.

Clasie maybe if he settles.

To be fair to Chadli he was pretty productive last season for Spurs. I'd definitely put him down as one of their better players from last season. His decision making is shocking but I'd still have him around the same level as Mane.

I thought Mané did better against the topsides though. Not necessarily in goals/assists but far more threatening than Chadli who just fades away.
