Surprised there's not already a thread for him. Thought he was excellent against us earlier in the season and looks very good every time I see him. Incredibly composed defender.

I know we're not short on CBs but with Maguire/Lindelof/Evans maybe all going next summer he could be an option. Only 24 and not too much fanfare about him so maybe could get him cheaper than the usual Brighton inflation?

Just a thought anyway.

Seems like a steady defender but is quite slow from what i have seen. If we are gonna bring in another CB next summer, i would assume we would be looking at someone a bit quicker to compensate De Ligt's lack of speed. That said - we are likely to lose Maguire, Lindelof and Evans next summer, so will need 1 or 2 more so for the right price, could be decent back up!

I don't think he's 'out of this world' good which suggests there will be better value abroad (Liga Portuguesa anyone?) compared to buying a player from the Premier League, and of all teams Brighton.

Will be expensive, I bet Brighton will demand £50m at a minimum, best is to find someone in Europe with a better pidegree and lower cost

António Silva?

Doesn't seem like a wide defender to me. At CCB, we are already stacked. Not a good fit IMO. Pass.

If Martinez, De Ligt and Yoro establish themselves as first choice and stay clear of major injuries, I don't think we need to spend big money at CB again next summer. A backup for each spot wouldn't be a bad idea if Maguire, Evans and Lindelof go.

For those spots we shouldn't be paying 5x over the odds in the PL. For the big lump in the middle to back up De Ligt and replace Maguire, maybe someone like Jaka Bijol from Udinese (25, big lad, wins headers, plays in the middle of a back three, has stood out in a good few games against big teams and has been linked with a move to the PL for a while). For the wide spots, we'd probably be looking at Sporting's young CBs if the price is right. I feel like there are going to be other areas we need to spend the big money on.

I think a wide defender will be needed no matter what. We ideally need at least 3 for the two positions, but we only really have one currently that's completely suited for that role, in Yoro, and you can argue that long-term he could take over the CCB spot as well.

Very good ball playing defender, but I'd imagine he'd cost a lot as he's groomed to take over for Dunk long term

Think I've got my Dutch names mixed up as I thought this thread was about the other assistant coach who was working with Ruud!

What was apparently said by Pep? Post match
Told him he was a good player and man of the match but he went down too easily when himself and Erling were wresting and that he tried to get Erling sent off apparently.

According to a lip reader the conversation went like this

"Are you joking? Are you serious? You don't do that." He then continued, "You asked for…crying. Are you crying?"

The 53-year-old then further added, "Fair play for that…" A confused Van Hecke then in response asked, "Why?" Guardiola then said, "No come on baby... No... No, let's go clap. You played a good game. I still like to congratulate you."

The manager finally ended the conversation by saying, "Congratulations, anyway… Enjoy your night."

Interesting given Van Hecke said this:

'We were just speaking about the foul at the end in the box," the centre-back concurred.
"He asked me what happened in the box and I explained.
"He congratulated me. I said they had a great team. He is a great manager.
"You see the way his team played at the end of last season when we lost 4-0. I only have a lot of respect for him."
