James Chester

Posh sign Manchester United defender on loan

Posh are to sign 20 year-old Manchester United centre-back James Chester on a month's loan today.
Chester will cover for Welsh international Craig Morgan who suffered a suspected broken toe during Saturday's League One defeat at Huddersfield.

Just read this......a good move for him although it does leave us a little short of defenders in the reserves.

The Posh have lost a couple on the bounce, probably needed a CB regardless of Morgan's injury.

posse could do with a few competitive games ..
unlikely now .. doubt they would leave it this late

Will be a decent move for the young lad to get some experience.

He looked shakey in his debut against Derby, and I think first team experience if he can get it will be good for his development.

Looks like he may be off on loan to Carlisle:

Carlisle close on Chester

Skysports.com understands Carlisle United have agreed a deal to bring in Manchester United youngster James Chester on loan.

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott has been busy trying to improve his squad ahead of next weekend's big kick-off and signed trialist Francois Zoko earlier in the week.

The League One club have confirmed a signing from the Premier League is imminent and it is understood that defender Chester is the mystery target.

Managing director John Nixon told the club's official website: "We're delighted to be able to report that it looks like all of the hard work has paid off.

"We will definitely have one and possibly even two players from a Premier League team in our squad tomorrow. It's good news for us as we continue to work towards the first game of the season next weekend."

Abbott added: "We've spent a lot of time on the phone with one of the top Premier League clubs and we are delighted with how it has gone.

"Out of courtesy we won't name names just yet, as there is still a little bit of work to do, but we should be in a position to say more ahead of kick off tomorrow."

Chester has made just one substitute's appearance for United and has previously had loan spells at Peterborough United and Plymouth Argyle.

I was one minute late in posting exactly that.

Let's hope that he can get the games that he needs after suffering with cartilage damage at Plymouth. It's looking more and more likely that he won't become a first team player at United, but he may well eventually become a very good Premier League center back in the future, providing he steers clear of further long term injuries.

Not sure about Premier League. There's definitely a level for him where he can have a good career, though. He consistently looked very good in the ressies, and I think he could do a good job for Carlisle. I really don't think he's good enough for the top division, though - that's my feeling, anyway.

Let's hope he gets back on track and has a good season.

I tend to agree Sinch, he lacks a bit of pace and height to be a top centre half but should be a very good League One/Championship player as he has a great attitude and is very committed.

Joining Hull on a permanent deal tomorrow, good move for him.

Is it permanent? I read another source that said it was a loan. Some quotes from Carlisle:

'Carlisle boss Greg Abbott told his club's official website: "I found out late last night (Sunday) that James was heading for Hull and we have to send him with all our best wishes.

"Manchester United thanked us for the way we have developed their player and it has turned out to be an excellent move for him.

"Obviously we don't want him to go but this is a fantastic opportunity for him. He has been excellent for us and we will all be looking out for him and hoping that he does well in the future."

A good move for the lad - has shown his quality for Carlisle.
