So Activision has released two James Bond games: GoldenEye and Blood Stone. The former is a remake of the hit N64 classic and the latter is a new game for PC, PS3, DS, and 360.
The game is designed to mimic an actual James Bond movie and it even has the Bondesque opening credits and the Metro Goldwyn Mayer intro. It's basically a brand new Daniel Craig Bond movie.
I have played for an hour and I find the game to be quite retro. I am unsure whether that is a good thing or a bad thing. For one, the graphics are extremely poor for a new 2010 release. With RPG games like Mafia II on the market, one would expect them to make an effort with the cosmetics. On a couple of glances, it doesn't seem to be entirely that bad graphically but if there are close ups or if there is a cut scene, you can witness the severe lack of detail. For example, when the Bond girl was introduced, I literally laughed because her hair and dress was reminiscent of PS1 or even N64 graphics.
Having said that, I quite like the action scenes. The shooting engine makes very good entertainment despite being quite easy. When shooting enemies, it actually reminded me of the good old Time Crisis games which I suppose isn't too bad.
All in all, I have mixed feelings about this game. Despite being mildly entertaining, there are some really severe flaws which isn't really forgivable seeing how other RPG shooter games have progressed dramatically.
6/10.
