James Beatie

Wouldn't mind him for the EPL

Excellent in the air but not good enough for the CL - you need a better striker for that than beattie

You have got to be joking, right?.

he is a good player, but not a Man Utd player. Since when have United played a big lump up front to pump long balls to?.

Do you actually understand what United fans (and SAf for that matter) what from a striker?.

I remember Kiddo saying we should sign John Hartson. SAF's reaction was "he is not a United type player".

I think this guy has really good potential ... I actually thought he's a good alternatives during PDC/Forlan saga ... But then again, now that Forlan is here ... I don't really see the possibility ... I would consider RVN and Ole as "established" - Forlan waiting to be "polished" and Beattie ... well, something in between there ... which means it will make the 4 strikers line up very light-weight IMO ... To survive a long season like Man Utd's ... we need at least 3 "established" ones up-front ..
Sad but that's the reality ... :( I actually rate him highly and think he's a very "Man Utd" type of player ... hard to describe but it's a feeling of mine that way ...

Whilst Beattie is a quality player the young striker that I would most like to see at United is Jermain Defoe. I have had the priviledge of seeing Jermaine play twice now and he looks a very good player, he could certainly to a job for United.

He doesn't score enough - simple as that and his role is an out-and-out striker

His strike partner Pahars is more prolific, check their records

I reckon Ricketts is ahead of Beattie

Michael Ricketts! Are you insane? he is simply not good enough (yet). He has the potential (18 months ago he was playing in Div 2 for Walsall) but last week he played his first game at the highest level and didn't look international class. He could maybe do it in the league for us but not in Europe.

To be honest... Beattie is a quality player, although he like Matt Le Tisser, look good due to the standard of the team performance

Matt Le Tisser looked good because everyone else around him to be honest wasn't all that great... It is the same thing with Beattie in my opinion - Im not knocking Southampton because I do admire them in some respects, but thats how I see it

Come on guys this debate is just silly.

Are we looking to buy the likes of Beattie or do we want the likes of RVN? If you think you can compare the two (Schwarzenegger voice) you're an idiot! You deserve to die!

Beattie is not Man Utd class, he is not even international class. Decent striker but playing for THE BEST CLUB IN THE WORLD?

You have to remember our status and then look at the likes of Juventus and Real bringing in amazing talent. I'd rather we started with Nardiello and Webber than buy in simply decent players, at least they'd be homegrown.

Sure decent player, theres just so much better out there. Doesnt suit our playing style either. We need an Owen/Ronaldo/Shevchenko/Henry type player aka Cisse.

My thoughts precisely. Save the Beatties for the likes of cesspoo and go after the likes of tristan and cisse

I rate Ricketts higher than Beattie, I never said that we should go after him

Read carefully

I disaggree im afraid

we could do with a good hughes style forward me thinks

tis what we have missed in some respects...

Beattie?? good but not international class..let alone United class..and NO thats not because he plays for Sothampton.. Svensson sp? on the other hand is top notch!!

The point is not to sign a world class attacker such as Crespo, Batistuta, Henry, Owen, Kluivert etc it is to sign someone like Beattie who has tremendous potential who can go develop using our great facilities.

A world class player would cost at least £20m+ so signing someone like Beattie we can save a lot of money and end up with a player equally as good.

Man Utd have a tradition of a good system, we could make Beattie into a player as good as Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, But and the Nevilles.
