The Eternal City, proud home of SS Lazio 1900.
During yesterday's SS Lazio stockholders meeting, president Cragnotti proposed a salary cap to players income: 77.5 million euros, a 30% reduction to this year's 210 billion liras.
The Board approved unanimously. A new era is born, I believe. No more money-wasting in Italy. And Europe will follow, I am sure.
After the Stock Exchange, Lazio first in Italy for innovative rules, again.

I just can't see Lazio benefitting from this. A salary cap serves no purpose unless it's implemented throughout the whole league. If I'm a non Italian player who wants to play footy in Serie A, surely I'd be more inclined to go to a club that doesn't impose restrictions on salary!

You may have the likes of Nesta et al but when it comes to contract time do you think they'll stay if another club offers substancially more Lire for their services? Doubtful. Agents will find as much dosh for their clients as they can with no regard to club loyalty. So unless the good ship SS Lazio can come up with some other benifits for their players like signing on fee's or stock shares etc. you can wave arrivaderci

to the Scudetto.

IMO of course ;)

Right. Actually, they are already being paid with stock options and stuff. But to respond to your doubts I'll just write one word: Fiorentina.

ps: Simeone won't like your remark. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
But he's so damn good.

Piersi,
I don't see the point of unilateral salary caps. If other teams don't apply them, you'll get killed. Example from US: NY Yankees. They got the ca$h, they go to the World Series every year.

well, I think that Chelsea is going to have financial problems in the next future... and many others all around the world!

I agree, the whole league should have a salary cap,but someone has to start the damn thing.

Anyway, I'm quite upset...

The other way to increase revenues is, for italian teams, to build their own stadiums, like in England.
IMHO.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Endorsed and enforced are 2 different things.
Agreed about the stadia.
