Jose Mourinho confident Steven Gerrard will leave Liverpool for big-money move to Inter Milan

Inter Milan are increasingly confident that they can tempt Steven Gerrard to quit Liverpool for Italy.

Jose Mourinho has instructed Inter president Massimo Moratti to make the England midfielder their No 1 transfer target this summer.

And although Gerrard twice turned down the chance to join up with Mourinho when the Portuguese was in charge of Chelsea, the Italians think the 29-year-old could be ready to move.

The one-club man signed a new contract through to 2013 last summer, but the Reds have since gone from Premier League title contenders to a team unlikely to play Champions League football next season.

Financial constraints have made it difficult to improve the Liverpool squad and Europe's biggest clubs now see their star players as within reach.

Inter believe it could cost between £25million and £30m to sign Gerrard, though the Serie A side are weighing up whether to offer troublesome striker Mario Balotelli in part-exchange following clashes with Mourinho.

Dont blame him...if he wants to win the league, he must leave anfield asap...

Gerrard playing for a Mourinho side would allow him to further hone and perfect his starfish.

Mouinho won't be at Inter himself next year so i doubt he's planning future signings.

That sounds more like he's grooming his backside rather than diving.

With Torres gone and Liverpool definitely not playing Champions League football next season, I'm sure now Gerrard will leave in the summer.

They should have sold him a long time ago and it would have been better for his career, too. After Torres' departure, I can see him force his way out of the club. The problem is he's too old and past his peak, no top club would meet Liverpool's fee demands.

Now they have a striker partnership, they'd be better off investing in players who can play CM and of course wide players.

I'm looking for a video of Gerrard in a post-match interview after a Champions League game a season or two ago where the interviewer mentions Liverpool's current problems and they managed a win and Gerrard spits his dummy and says 'yeah, well they 'ant got Fernando Torres, 'ave they?' and walks off in a huff.
Can't seem to find it, anyone remember this?

Damn right. And to Chelsea in 2005. Then Essien probably ends up at United. :(

he'll only be sold if liverpool appoint a manager that really doesn't want him.

even then, the manager will have to come to agreement with comolli to sell him.

plus i don't think he'll fetch all that much to be honest.

I reckon we really should try to sign reina in the summer though just to see the vermin top themselves.
