I notice you are from Yorkshire. Are you a Leeds United (Scum) supporter or just mad? Whilst David Beckham definetely IS overrated selling him for £15 million would be ridiclious.. He is worth at least £30 million without the media hype. Add that into the equation and he is worth nearer forty or fifty million.

Arsene Wenger's comments about the financial state of the game were very revealing, I don't expect any clubs to be spending big. A lot of clubs are in debt and need TV money to survive. It looks like that won't be rising again so clubs just can't afford to buy David Beckham.

Beckham is overrated and over-hyped...most United fans realise this...but the fact remains even if you ignore the media circus and celebrity he is still a very good footballer.

If you replace the very good footballer and take worldclass player instead. I agree too; otherwise not.
 
That`s my point: Beckham is overhyped by the press as a celeb and the consequences are that some "fans" think he is the most complete and best player of the world. He is not.
But he is not overrated in general as a footballer. He is quite simple together with Figo (or maybe behind) the best right midfielder of the world; one of the best 10-15 players of the world and IMO the best english player for at least 10 years.
 
He's not the second best in the world as his award might suggest, but he's by far and away the best English player around.
It's a joke comparing thugs like Bowyer and Alan Smith to Beckham (if this Leeds fan wants to make such a comparasion).
 
He may not have the balance or skill of Zidane or Del Piero or the blistering pace of Carlos but what he brings to a game is what he is judged on.

Did you see him against Greece? I dont think any other player bar Roy Keane could've done that. He is the best passer of the ball in the world, having Veron here (top 3 passers of the ball) only emphasises how good Beckham is - he is better than Juan. He is also very consistent, he is just having a bad year which can be said for most of the team really.

He's as good as Hoddle was. Certainly the best passer since Hoddle. He hasn't got the dribbling of giggs or creativity of Gazza, but he's the best crosser of his generation. He's also one of the world's best free kick takers. To say he has poor ball control is total bollocks and what exposes you as a wind up merchant. He has fabulous ball control and touch, a key part of our one touch football. He can tackle better than Scholes imo, better timing and recently very aggressive in the tackle. <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> He tackles back, is a team player (unusual for such an individual talent), and he does have a left foot, but since he plays on the right wing has no need for it. There was an occasion in the england-greece game I think when he did a perfect cross under pressure with his left foot. He has now added great mental strength to his game, which is why he is now rightly the England Captain.

i agree that he probably is overrated, however there is not ONE of the hight profile players that isn't !

Beckham scores goals. The ultimate commodity a footballer can have. Just look at the stats when in doubt. They never lie.
 
Not only does beckham score goals, he gets assists. He also has the never-say-die attitude that drags us back into games, and a fabulous mental strength. Some people were saying that he doesn't play as well for United as he does for England. B*llsh*t! Just perhaps the England games wore him out. The whole team was poor earlier in the season, but that doesn't suddenly make him someone who only performs for England. He looks very refreshed and fit now, and is coming into his form. I think that many of our players only lift themselves after Christmas in the way that Olympic athletes time their peak with the key times. As long as all our players do peak in the knockout stages then its job done.

You know,i`ve been a United fan for about 6 years.And my favourite footballer has been David Beckham.If he leaves(which i doubt)i`ll support United anyway and i`ll support David at his new club too.I also support England.
I don`t only speak about Dave.I speak about all the football and England too.There are a lot of topics on Dave at this forum that`s why i speak about him maybe too often.I just can`t miss a single topic on him.
 
I find that most people who think Becks is overrated, tend to fall for the media hype of his off the pitch image etc. Strip away all of the hype and you're still left with a fantastic player.

I think Beckham was fantastic in the Spurs game. I love to see Becks do longshots. If only he can play as good as that everytime, the board would be glad to pay him £100,000 a week.....i think
