Israeli soldiers struggle to square political views with the realities of war

“I’m devastated about the death of people in Gaza, kids, the elderly. Just normal men (aged) 26, like me, we don’t want to die. But I have the right to defend myself and to defend my family, my friends, my loved ones,” he said, rejecting the notion that the Hamas terror attack was an act of “resistance” against the Israeli blockade. “I’m not saying this is not a complex situation. But I’m 100% sure that I’m on the right side of history, and that I’m trying to defend people.”

Hikvision is perhaps best poised to meet Israel’s intensifying drive to enclose Palestinian life. As of 2021, the company had more than 54,000 camera networks in Israel, with more than 35,000 in Tel Aviv alone (Migliano and Woodhams 2021). According to company sources, its products are used for the surveillance not only of Palestinians, but also of Israelis.

Rules of genocide:

1. First you dehumanise the target people.
2. Then you dehumanise yourself.
3. Killing anything or anybody, including your own, becomes straightforward.

That's what the famous Holocaust survivor said (paraphrased).

This guy reminds me of the COVID mother who's sons died because they refused to be immunised and she still wouldn't change her mind.

Early on when he thought she'd been killed, he said he was happy when he was told she was dead because HE couldn't bear the thoughts of her being held captive by Hamas. It would have been too much for him to bear apparently.

His daughter is going to have a strange time looking back on his statements as an adult.

He was distraught and nearly unable to speak when he was made a focal point of the Hamas is IS campaign.

Then his daughter was released by Hamas. Now he is being trotted out as a PR move to show how bad Hamas is again.

It wouldn't surprise me if he is being lent on to a lesser or greater degree to continue the campaign.

Yes, they are pressuring. I highly doubt that Egypt will agree to that. Israel tried it with Egypt directly and are now trying to get the US involved. I doubt Egypt give up the crossing and the corridor tbh. They've been bombing the south part of the border but that's different to controlling it.

It would take a lot and I mean a lot for Egypt to give control of the borders up. Like I mentioned before, it would break the camp David accords and pretty much force Egypt into a lose lose situation.

Westerners wonder why Arabs hold so much anger at the west? Do you blame them? you have been decimating this part of the planet with wars, destruction and injustice for the past 110 years.

I am in Sweden doing some consultant work and I watch the morning news every day before work. They have finally started discussing and analysing potential war crimes commited by Israel in mainstream media.

We can all post all sorts of tweets on the alleged war crimes committed in Gaza, we’re not going to make any progress until the US is fully (and blindly) backing Israel every step of the way.

That just goes to prove that for the average Joe, especially people living in the Arab world, USA is not better than Russia or China. For them, USA is lot worse.

Anyway, the world will further polarize and many people will open eyes. There is no universal human rights, there is no universal justice and there is no single state that adheres principles of freedom and democracy, despite USA being perceived as good guys in general, in comparison to Russia and China.

Essentially, they are all the same, using only slighthly different methods but having ultimately the same goal, aligning world order to fit their interests.

In what possible universe does supposed "naval gunfire" result in what looks like a tarp shredded by a knife or scissors? Actual naval gunfire could blast that truck to kingdom come. Whatever ACTUALLY happened, happened on land by someone with a blade.

Keep the propaganda coming,.

Do you have any links to bill maher's analysis of this? It would be interesting to know what he thinks.

Love how most people in my social feeds have gone silent since the ICJ ruled Israel's actions as probable genocide.

Israel and most of the mainstream media played a masterclass in propaganda there. The UNRWA stuff was released exactly at the time of the ICJ ruling and snuffed the ruling completely.

That is your usual tactics. After obvious BS is called out (like navy vessels firing scissors and knives shells with super precision) you derail the discussion. Anybody else wants to jump in with Bill Maher reference?

Could you cite your response to the ICJ interim decision? I believe your only response was to cite Israeli UNRWA report. This is your usual tactics.....you derail the discussion and try to push it in your favoured direction.

You're a purveyor of propaganda yourself, and the epitome of a hypocrite. Anyone with eyes can see it and that is why your posts are treated with the derision they deserve.

They may have done so because this chapter of the conflict is now in its fourth month, and as with most wars, there’s a gradual loss of public interest over time. Same situation happened in the Russia-Ukraine war.

The ICJ ruling itself didn’t seem to have any teeth since there was no clear ruling on genocide (beyond "please don't do it in the future"), which was the entire purpose of the case in the first place. All it did is is order Israel to "take steps to avoid genocide in Gaza". Beyond that, it didn't even call for a ceasefire (never mind that Israel would likely ignore the opinion of any UN related body anyway). Another reason the South Africans brought the case was to curb Israeli fighting in Gaza. It didn't do that either. So all things said, we are back to square one, where only Israel & Hamas, by way of the US, Egypt, and Qatar have any influence actually agreeing to a temporary ceasefire by way of returning the hostages and releasing Palestinians held by Israelis.

It is not that easy to talk about it now in Sweden, which is strange giving the somehow neutral view of Sweden on this conflict. But the right leaning government is of course a cause. The swedish PM had a freudian slip few weeks ago when he said "Israel has the right to commit genocide" before the public went crazy and he corrected himself and said "I mean defend itself".

I cited UNRWA website. And I respond to what I want. I don't care what you make of it. Do you respond to every propaganda tweet here? I respond to tweet posted by somebody else and I am derailing the discussion? If you can't handle the fact that majority of tweets here are utter bullshit that is not my problem. If you want to see hypocrite, look in the mirror.

I post time from time because it is not my full time job to debunk all your BS that is posted here.
