... lots of people wanted to clean house and everyone said our defense was/is shit.. but i think that they just needed time to develop with each other and individually. we have defense that everyone is drooling over. G. Neville, O'Shea, Brown, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Blanc... we've got such a solid group that has developed. And to all those morons who said our youth program was doing feck all.. well i guess brown and o'shea are feck all huh? cuz they're the most promising defenders in the world. it just strikes me as nobody is patient these days. But some things are worth the wait..

on a side note, it struck me today after the Arse match that someone mentioned "O2: that is goin to be the score of all of their matches" after they announced that sponsorship deal.. well isn't it ironic :D :D

Everyone?? I didn't. Said all along that our defence is streets better than last year. I don't think I was the only one either.

On the same line, we have to give chances to our young offensive strikers. Therein lies the solution to our striking deficiencies. Danny Webber and Jimmy Davis and Daniel Nardiello have all the potential to perform at the highest level. This is why, I thought, someone up front who could play the same role that Laurent Blanc has at the back for us. And Paolo Di Canio could not have allowed anybody else a vote from that angle, allowing a mature and 'much more fit' player than Blanc, for that, to fill the gap and let our youngsters mature in his presence. Unfortunately, that will not happen. Di Canio out till February. Maybe it would be good to blood the youngsters directly. Throw them in the water and let them swim directly. They can and will. Much like our defenders.

Your thoughts?

maybe now that we're on a winning streak, SAF will not concentrate very much on bringing a new player in. He has always been against signing players mid-season anyway.

so i'm sure we will see bits and parts of our young offensive team taking roles in the rotation scheme - if no one is bought.

But the main reason i think SAF wanted to bring in a new striker was because we had no covers for injuries. We will need atleast one more proven striker in the squad for this reason.

Indeed. But, if we do, I hope it is not someone who will be here for six years... It would be very sad to see the young guys having to fight against reputed players in their development, without so much as a decent chance to make it through. We should not much forget the 1995-96 season, the season we threw our youngsters into the ring without second-thought after off-loading our three major stars of the time. Our youth will always have to be nurtured and catered for because dividends reaped from that are too big for the club to pass on.

good point.

In a way it's good that Blanc is here and is leaving at the end of the year... O'Shea and Brown have certainly shown enough potential to carry this team on. Tho they'll definitely need more covers for injuries.

About the forwards, don't forget that Ole is now the aging one - so a youth from inside the team will most likely replace him in 2-3 years time. So with that said, i think SAF could go for a youngster instead of someone like DiCanio.

There's still plenty of opportunity to break in IMO. We'll always need 4 rototation players so if we buy a youngster there'll be one slot left when Ole leaves, and since there's no real rising star in the youth team atm we still have sometime to spare until Ole retires.

hahaha

forgive my crude ignorance of his age.. but seeing with recent history that not many forwards stayed with us until they needed crates or wheelchairs i thought he'd be the first to go from this lot of players. :D

altho yes, i have to agree.. Ole will probably still have 4-5 years for us.. so if our kids have a chance then i think our 4th striker should be somewhat.. older..

Ole = Peter Pan. :)
